Surprised it was one year. Can't wait for the details.

dustrock 07-20-2012 08:15 AM

2 years was UFA, right?

cfrancis 07-20-2012 08:16 AM

Good deal, whatever the money.

Matt Ryan 07-20-2012 08:20 AM

solid move!

It doesn't move him to UFA, and money doesn't matter because it's only one year.

:handclap:

SK13 07-20-2012 08:20 AM

About what I wanted.

Johnny Bravo 07-20-2012 08:23 AM

3.2 Million as per Dreger

Lowe in Oil 07-20-2012 08:23 AM

$3.2m

CupofOil 07-20-2012 08:24 AM

Good, no long term commitment and it takes him back to RFA after the one year.
I don't think that now is a good time to trade him anyway since his numbers and value should spike up a bit this season with even more talent surrounding him.
If he can't surpass the 50 pt plateau this season (if there is a season) then there truly is no hope for him.

But it sets up a situation where he could drive up his value next season, making future years more expensive.

Perfect_Drug 07-20-2012 08:24 AM

Gagner Hall and Eberle are all up for renewal next year.

We'd better hope Bettman pulls a rabbit out of his ass on CBA negotiations or we're farked. Rangers and Philly might offer Hall n Ebs 15 years at front loaded $150million contracts.

How would that be a bad thing? If he has a good year than we have a future number 2 center

Oilers should sign those two for 15-17 years extensions right now!!!

Katz will match anything on the kids, mark it down.

tiger_80 07-20-2012 08:28 AM

Fair deal. Surprised Gagner settled for 1 year. Hopefully, he has a solid year and either shows that he can be a viable long-term option as 2C or increases his value enough to help improve the team through trade.

Could cause some cap issues with them also having to re-sign the big 3.

Honestly, though I expect Gagner to go at the deadline this year. I don't think this is much of a vote of confidence from the organization (the same org that gave a fatter, longer deal to DD who has shown a lot less in his time with the team than Gagner).

That is a worthy risk though
IMO

Groucho 07-20-2012 08:30 AM

Great deal, I don't think anybody has anything to complain about here.

Agreed, although very tough to put a dollar amount to the contract given how unproven they are.

Crazy talk. No good GM will sign them to an unrealistic offer sheet, and if some desperate GM does, they should take 4 1st rounders and probably have a good shot at another lottery pick.

Jimmi Jenkins 07-20-2012 08:32 AM

I like the deal, it puts a bit more pressure on Gagner

MeestaDeteta 07-20-2012 08:33 AM

$3.2M/yr is good, and I'd rather either have a 1 year deal or a 3+ year deal, and at 3+ years we're not getting him at $3.2M.

Landeskog The Viking 07-20-2012 08:34 AM

i always thought this guy would be a 20 50 guy if he cant next year with the line mates he'll have that'll be a disapointment

oilphan 07-20-2012 08:35 AM

Very good deal for this year, but I have a feeling this is going to mean a much more expensive deal in the future. More evidence of Tambo bumbling along and not willing to make hard choices. If Gags plays with Yak and Hemmer and has a great year (which I think is going to happen), we just lost our opportunity to get him signed long term for reasonable $.

joestevens29 07-20-2012 08:37 AM

Good deal for all IMO.
