Katie Strang @KatieStrangESPN

#NJD Sorry. To clarify: Fayne's two-year deal worth $2.6m in total. $1.2M, $1.4M

steal

hlaverty06 07-20-2012 07:33 PM

Holy **** what a steal

Confound 07-20-2012 07:34 PM

Fantastic deal!

Might be the best this off-season, steal of a deal.

hlaverty06 07-20-2012 07:36 PM

He's drinking the Lou-aId

manilaNJ 07-20-2012 07:36 PM

He'll definitely earn his pay day at the end of this contract... but damn, I'm surprised at what a deal this is.
He plays top pairing minutes many nights.

He could have let it go to arbitration, too.

Saugus 07-20-2012 07:40 PM

I'm very pleased with this deal, Fayne is definitely worth more than that.

hlaverty06 07-20-2012 07:43 PM

I would been happy with 2.75 -3 million....

stakesishigh 07-20-2012 07:44 PM

Damn, that's a solid signing. Great for the Devils.

Pushing it.

It's a steal, but there was no way he was ever getting more than $2 million.

Yes there is.... Most were expecting 2.5 plus

I thought he was going to get more than that, I was ready to see numbers like $2.5 M per. But to be fair, I was expecting a longer contract, not one that delivers him right to UFA (assuming the UFA age stays the same in the next CBA). That would have bumped up the price a bit if we had to start buying UFA years.

He was a pleasant surprise all year and into the playoffs, but the body of work just isn't there. Even if he went to arbitration I don't think he would have gotten much more than 2 million.

Again, 1.3 is a great number, but to Saugus's point as well it's a shorter term than you would have expected. I just don't think even he would have expected upwards of 3 million.

GentlemanOfLeisure 07-20-2012 07:54 PM

Great. Now we have 13 million dollars of cap space to sign...

nobody.

njdevilsftw 07-20-2012 07:54 PM

Maybe Lou told him he had some thing big in the works and needed all the money. Lol.

Better to save it for next summer, when half our top 6 goes UFA at the same time.

hlaverty06 07-20-2012 07:56 PM

Semin signs for 13 million a year

MJB Devils23* 07-20-2012 08:04 PM

I love this!

Classic Devil 07-20-2012 08:30 PM

I was expecting at least $2.5M.

None Shall Pass 07-20-2012 08:36 PM

That's a steal, for sure.

Elever 07-20-2012 09:15 PM

Wasn't he a UFA? That's a bargain salary for a 2nd pairing dman. Guy can play 20+ mins/game. The Salvador deal was overpayment but this is great.

EDIT: Oh RFA nvm but still a bargain

smsgtkvv 07-20-2012 09:43 PM

Last month he had wrist surgery and is expected back in October.

Puckclektr 07-20-2012 10:20 PM

Nice. I was expecting $2.5-$3. Great deal.

svat 07-20-2012 10:51 PM

a #2-3 d-man for #5-6 d-man money. Great deal.

njdevilsjds 07-20-2012 11:16 PM

Great deal can't complain!
