SK 2yrs 3M a year (Dregs quit using autocorrect!)

Dreger tweeted that SK has signed a 2 yr, 3m a yr deal with Nashville.

Broom of the System 07-23-2012 01:27 PM

Makes him a 27 year old UFA in two years provided the CBA doesn't change that. Does Poile just not understand the UFA age or something? Every contract expires at the worst time.

AEM6729 07-23-2012 01:29 PM

My cynical mind says "We better not be announcing this just prior to announcing that we're not matching Weber, so Poile can be like 'Weeelllll we don't have Weber, but we have...SK?'"

I'm glad we're keeping him, but I mean...we've been working on that over the past few days? Weird.

SK probs wanted some ridiculous amount of money and this was the compromise.

Funny people hate on DP for not giving Weber a 3-year deal last summer, but when he gives SK a short-term deal just to get him signed people are annoyed.

3 years 7 mil/year vs 7.8 or whatever the **** it was/arbitration/hurt feelings ... yes Poile deserves hate/heat

Is this what happened? Pretty cool that you're in the room with Poile. Any insights into the Weber situation?

Nothing Is New 07-23-2012 01:38 PM

$3M/yr. Played 75 games, 43 points, +8. This for Barry Trotz. Not a bad deal.

You totally missed my point. I'm not saying DP shouldn't have signed Weber to a 3-year deal last summer. I'm saying that lots of people think he SHOULD have, yet when DP avoids arbitration by signing SK to a short-term deal people are *****ing about it. The guy can't win.

Pointing out the irony. That's all.

ThirdManIn 07-23-2012 01:40 PM

SK definitely earned 1/2 of a Joel Ward contract.

Love the condescending sarcasm.

I obviously don't know what happened. But I think it's safe to assume that DP would prefer to not sign a player to a deal that ends when he's a young UFA.

And I do know that Poile avoided an arbitration hearing by getting this deal done, which is what we all wanted him to do with Weber. Now he does it with SK and you're complaining about it?

Seedling 07-23-2012 01:45 PM

Dreger's tweet is spelled correctly. That is his real name.

Fair deal. Less $ than I would have expected, and the term is fine for a player that, all things considered, I'm still not sure is a great fit long-term.

Smashville615 07-23-2012 01:58 PM

Im ok with this deal. I just hope he is a lot more dependable an does not do extended vanishing acts.

worstfaceoffmanever 07-23-2012 02:03 PM

Good contract. Reasonable money, though I would have liked an extra year on it. He's a good fit for this team and this culture.

AdmiralsFan24 07-23-2012 02:07 PM

Everyone loves this deal until the playoffs.

Top 6 Spaling 07-23-2012 02:20 PM

In a world where David Jones and PA Parenteau are making 4 mil for 4 years, this is a great deal. SK is a solid second liner, and those don't always come at 3mil.

Legionnaire11 07-23-2012 02:31 PM

Good deal for SK and the team. Avoided arbitration too, which shows that maybe he realizes his place in the system and he likes playing here. He's definitely proven to be way less of a headcase than the MTL fans/media made him out to be.

I'm not concerned with the UFA age thing with a guy like SK, it's only crucial for the top level guys. It's not like SK is going to be one of the main prizes in free agency when he gets there, and if he is it's because he took his game to the next level over the next two seasons which is a huge plus for Nashville.

Of course the missing part of the story is... Why are we working out a contract with SK74 in the middle of Weber's offer sheet dilemma?

RaiderDoug 07-23-2012 02:32 PM

Glad to have him back.

I don't get the SK hate. Yeah, he's kind of inconsistent and can disappear.

He's also probably our best sniper, a good bet to lead the team in scoring, and that's a good contract.

ninetynine* 07-23-2012 02:32 PM

And there's our 13 forwards

Because the Weber dilemma is probably all over but the shouting IMHO.

The longer it goes, the less faith I have in them matching, and they're just sweating Philly out in hopes of getting a player back.

If they could match, there's no sense in not saying so immediately.

That's how I feel about it too, but then part of me thinks maybe they're just scrambling to triple check the finances before matching? But yeah, i'm already mentally prepared for Weber to be at a Presser in Philly on Thursday. I just hope that with the money needed to reach the cap floor, and the wealth of 1st round picks, that the team can be re-loaded for the next season. I know there is never going to be any replacement for the best D pair in the league, any team losing Weber-Suter will be worse no matter who else they add.

But worse on your top pairing, doesn't mean that an overhauled roster can't be the right combination of guys, combined with having good fortune with injuries and getting hot at the right times that they can make a run.

Poile can't make a move on Weber unless the money is there, and if the money is there all he has to do is match. The contract is already set. It just has to be made official. It's the owners who are going to be busy with Weber, not Poile. They are the ones who have to find a way to make it work, or exhaust all options before realizing that it will not.

SK's deal is pretty basic, too. In fact, considering all that has been going on this is actually some what of a sweetheart deal for the Preds. I see no reason to read into Poile hammering out this deal. Like I said, it isn't his responsibility to find money that might not be there. It's his responsibility to spend the money he knows he has.

I love this signing. I've always been a big fan of Koko

Paranoid Android 07-23-2012 03:03 PM

Don't like the guy, but this is a fair (potentially great) contract. Maybe he'll show up for 3 months next season :sarcasm:

This offer was likely submitted by Poile weeks ago and Sergei is just now accepting. That's my guess at least. Besides, this is a was pretty easy contract. Was probably worked out over lunch.
