Jamie Benn Offer Sheet

If you were Feaster would you submit a top level compensation offer sheet to Jamie Benn?

We don't have our second, so it would have to be the top level compensation (4 1st round picks). Since it will cost that much, you may as well go long term...

Maybe 10 years, 75 million dollars heavily front-loaded. Would you do it? And if so, do you think Dallas would match?

InfinityIggy 07-24-2012 03:20 PM

For Benn? 4 1sts?

Absolutely not. Benn is not a Weber and our picks are likely to be in the bottom 15 unfortunately.

If we make that offer, and then end up tanking, could be giving Dallas 4 lottery tickets.

Perro 07-24-2012 03:23 PM

If you can get a 1st for Bouwmeester it would reduce but I don't think it would make sence. Calgary isn't a Benn away from contending.

It's not a move to contend. It's just a different way to rebuild. Right now we're organizationally weak at center. Benn would fill that hole for the next decade. You'd then be able to build around him.

I expect we'd recoup some 1sts by trading Jbo, Iggy and Kipper over the next few years. Benn allows us to do that and remain competitive at the same time.

He's not a Weber in that he's not the top player in his position in the game. But he's similar in that he's a young premiere player that you can build around.

Backlund 07-24-2012 03:52 PM

I'd rather keep the 4 1sts. Benn is a great player but not worth the 4 possible lottery picks.

I could see the Flames maybe getting 1 lottery pick, but I don't see any way we'd have 4 in a row... Especially with Benn in the fold.

tfong 07-24-2012 04:00 PM

Given how we might stand in he standings I don't think Benn is worth that much to us.

Xelstyle 07-24-2012 04:13 PM

No way. We could miss out on the next Jankowski. :sarcasm:

In 4 years, he'll be halfway to being the best player in the draft.

Right? Right?

$7.5 million a year cap hit for Jamie Benn?

Really?

Really?

The Jank is going to have a caphit of 65 million. Damn we gotta move out the Anton.

The Anton goes where he pleases. There is no need to tell him where he has to go.

The Anton Trades the Flames, the Flames do not trade The Anton

Benn is best off at LW anyways

Is Benn worth 1 lottery & 3 1sts?

Nope.

The only way I'd consider offer sheeting Benn is getting our 2nd back from Montreal, and offering him 6.7ish.... (1st, 2nd, 3rd.)

Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 - 1st round pick, 2nd, 3rd.

I think the Stars would still match 6.725. The Flames are not in a position of strength at the moment. We need to hold on to our picks, and build through the draft. We've already seen some great additions in Baertschi, Janko, Seiloff, Gaudreau, Wortherspoon.

I agree with that last part in particular. We can't be looking for quick fixes with our lack of young high end talent.

Sign Benn to an offer sheet. Then send Cammy, Gaudreau and Butler for E. Kane.

Boom...

TheHudlinator 07-24-2012 10:02 PM

Makes no sense we don't have a second rounder and I am not comfortable giving up 4 firsts at this point.

It packs the same Stalin flavour without all the propaganda! Gee Wiz!

=o) on a serious note, yeah. I still don't like the Jankowski pick; pointless with Tuevo still on the table.

Quick edit, outside of Sven, when was the last time Flames made a first round pick count? I can't even remember.
