Rangers re-sign Cam Talbot

From NHLPA.com

Cameron Talbot. $550,000. His QO was $660,000. He probably(most definitely)got more AHL money. $105,000 is the threshold for re-entry waivers. Talbot can be a group 6 UFA next summer if its a one year SPC.

Scroll to the Rangers page. Last player listed.

Rangers have 44 SPCs which includes JT Miller(slide if he doesn't play 10 NHL games in 12-13).

Michael Del Zotto and Anton Stralman are the remaining unsigned group IIs. DZ is expected to sign a multi-year deal. Stralman has an arbitration hearing on Tuesday.

It's one more piece of the puzzle for the organization. It will be interesting to see if they look for a more experienced goalie to share the job in Hartford.

The missing piece!

j/k

Start the parade!!!!!

If his QO was higher, how come he didn't accept the QO?

Rangerboy addressed that. If he's likely to be in the AHL, the NHL salary is pretty meaningless to him.

Ah, yes. Thanks, I missed that.

Good for Hartford.

Also, the "Cup is ours" comments stopped being cute like 5 years ago.

Machinehead 07-25-2012 08:38 PM

Que the "who needs Lundqvist?" threads :sarcasm:

Khelvan 07-25-2012 09:08 PM

Is Johnson still with the organization?

Nope. I think he's in Phoenix now.

Also, any word on length of the Talbot deal?

You took the words right out of my mouth.

The Calder Cup is his?

Tawnos 07-25-2012 10:11 PM

At least we don't have to deal with the "dominoes!" comments at the moment.

Ranger71 07-26-2012 02:40 AM

Yawn, Stajcer is the best goalie prospect in the system, and even he's no sure thing to be an NHL starter eventually. They'll need to draft a goalie high in the next 2 years, probably in 14' since Columbus has their 1st.

Dustin Peener 07-26-2012 04:38 AM

Probably shares duties with Stajcer

RangerBoy 07-26-2012 06:20 AM

Talbot,Missiaen and Stajcer. Talbot and Johnson split the duties with the Whale. Missiaen was in the ECHL. Stajcer was an overager in Owen Sound. The Rangers used up a year off the ELC sending him back to the OHL.

Nich 07-26-2012 07:37 AM

Good. Talbot is a solid prospect. I really hope we sign a god NCAA free agent goalie after this season. Need to get some high end goalie prospect into the system, but Talbot is a solid goalie, nothing amazing, but still good for the org

Jarkko Immonen 07-26-2012 01:12 PM

Good. I hope he keeps playing like he did in the playoffs. The Whale will need him to if his backup is a youngster.

RangerBoy 07-26-2012 02:47 PM

$75,000 AHL. 1 year deal.

Im a big believer that we should draft a goalie late in the draft every year. Just like Lundquist, take a shot.

Not claiming to be expert here, but whatever else he needs to develop, we all remember a lightning glove hand last year at Traverse City.

I'm sure I'm in minority here, BUT if I can get real value for Biron from a team like the Black Hawks, would like to take a chance on this guy as our backup. True, he wouldn't get every day development, but he would have top level shooters pressing him.

-------------

Maybe something like Biron + = Dylan Olsen

Brooklyn Ranger 07-26-2012 07:43 PM

Biron was not signed to be traded. The organization is clearly gunning for a Stanley Cup in the next year or two. Having a completely untested goaltender is not the way to get Lundqvist ready for a deep playoff run--it's been tried and it didn't work.

Machinehead 07-26-2012 10:01 PM

Yeah the value for Biron idea sounds good, but it's not the right move right now.

We just got Rick Nash, I think the mission is pretty clear.
