Cracking the lineup

So guys, we have some players ready for the big club to crack the lineup this year. Who do you think will crack the lineup and who will be replaced?

TheKingSlayer 07-29-2012 04:38 PM

Oh it`s this thread again.

nuck 07-29-2012 04:49 PM

Gardiner and Frattin have already cracked the Leafs so add Kadri and Holzer. Scrivens if they don't make a deal for a veteran goalie. They have a couple of other guys that could play well enough in camp to earn a spot but the surplus of vets will keep them down another year.

SteveV* 07-29-2012 04:49 PM

The Kessel kid has a future.

Tyler Biggs* 07-29-2012 05:00 PM

Holzer and Frattin.

HockeyNightInBelfast 07-29-2012 05:02 PM

I'd love to see D'Amigo get a chance as special teams guy!

Again, would love to see Kadri (w/ an off-season of Gary Robert's training under his belt) & Joe Colborne earn a spot over Connolly or Lombardi.

Ashton def needs another year in the Ahl.

I fully agree with all of the above.

Ashton is gonna spend his entire career down there IMO. D'Amigo is a great two-way player who I think has a bright future as a 2nd/3rd line NHLer and PKer but I think he needs at least another year with the Marlies to get his offensive production up, something that has been lacking his entire time in the AHL. Hopefully he can build off of his Calder Cup run production. I could see him benefiting more than anyone else from the arrival of Keith Aucion.

No one should say Colborne after the year he just had. The kid can't even produce in the AHL, why do people assume he will in the NHL?

FYI, he was playing with an injured wrist since November/December.

Amp3d 07-29-2012 06:52 PM

Hoping Kadri can finally land a spot. Also after Holzer signed his one-way deal he's the other guy who makes it.

5 points in his first 10 NHL games ain't bad.

Um... how exactly is a 20 year old a bust already?

He put up 0.60 ppg in his first year as a pro ... that's not bad for a power forward project ... I think he'll have a solid year in the AHL this year, and take a run at making the team in 2013/14 ... he's big, can skate, and has a decent offensive upside - I can see him becoming a very solid 3rd line winger for us in a couple of years.

ForSpareParts* 07-29-2012 08:15 PM

Deschamps Night In Canada! also Holzer

Lupul Bozonkz Kessel

I watched all 15 games he played for the Leafs and about 7 of the games he played for the Marlies both regular season and playoffs. Based on what I saw I personally feel that he has bad offense and skating. He does go to the net hard and can control the puck well but his shooting, passing and offensive awareness are lacking. In regards to his skating, he is pretty fast but his balance and footwork are really weak. He is such a big guy, why is he so light on his feet? He looked awkward and way out of place with the Leafs and he didn't look good with the Marlies either. I hope he can improve in these areas and make an impact with our team down the road but I am not counting on it by any means.

Also, to be honest, I am still very bitter that we traded Keith Aulie for him.:( Aulie rescued his dad from a tractor that broke through frozen ice over a lake. He also beat the crap out of Hartnell after he and Briere had pushed us around. Warroir.

This is what I think:

Gardiner already cracked the line so has to prove nothing.
Kadri will crack it, he's been training hard with Gary Roberts.
Frattin would have cracked it but it is probably unlikely he will be healed by the time training camp starts but once he's healed he should crack it.
Holzer will be in the lineup since he got a one way contract.
Scrivens made it if we don't find another goaltender.

Colborne will probably be called up for a few games but will need more time in the minors.

Ashton needs at least another year in the minors.
D'Amigo was good in the playoffs but can he be consistent? I don't think he'll crack it but he might get called up if there's injuries.
Deschamp might crack it next year (don't think this year but who knows).
Blacker is not likely since we have lots of spare D'man but I wouldn't mind seeing him up.

People that I "WANT" replaced but won't necessarily:
Komisarek
Connolly
Lombardi
(I don't really like Liles that much but he won't be replaced)
Steckel could probably be replaced by McClement or McClement could be for third line.

I agree. I think he'll crack the line up again.

As for those who place Holzer (and/or Komi) ahead of Franson in the depth chart, give your head a shake. They may be more physical than Franson, but both are 6th/7th defencemen at best. I like Holzer, but mostly because he'll be able to play 15-18 minutes of effective (but not great) hockey at a very cheap cost.

Anyone think Rielly will at least get a look before being sent down? Or are we too deep on d?

Burke did say he was #1 on his list, how many #1s get sent back down?

Kitsy 07-30-2012 01:22 PM

This Season:
Kadri
Frattin
Holzer
Call-up Colborne
Call-up Deschamps
Call-up D'Amigo
Call-up Ashton

Next Season:
Colborne
D'Amigo
Ashton
Call-up Deschamps
Maybe Reilly
Maybe Blacker
Outside shot of Percy

King Mapes 07-30-2012 05:39 PM

Holzer should take Schenn's spot

showtime8 07-30-2012 05:47 PM

David Broll as a 4th line spot.

No real other surprises because of the fact that the Leafs have to pay a lot of plugs.

Reilly is good -- real good. If Gardiner and a young Kaberle can change minds in camp Reilly has a shot. That said I see him back in junior to get a little stronger defensively.

A lot of Deschamps going on around here.

I think some of you had an opportunity to speak up about him earlier and were too affraid.

It's ok. Now you know. Go with your gut next time. Speak up when you have something good to say.

Have a great night.

I knew I should have said Lupul was just a stop-gap before agreement did last season!

Next time I will listen to my gut.

Thank you for your wisdom and have a great night.
