Who do you think is the most improved team as of Aug 2, 2012

Now that we have been a full month into free agency and seeing what some teams have been doing to improve their team. I was wondering what your thoughts on which team made the most improvement on paper.

I know a lot of teams are going to go with Minnesota but I think they still have some problems. Yes, Suter and Praise are very good players but the question mark is will they fit well in Minnesota style of play and does Minnesota have the right players be competitive.

I think the team that improved the most is Carolina. They now have a number one Center with Jordan Staal and if Alexander Semin can play like he did in Washington and score 20+ goals they have vastly improved their team from last year. They may not be the best team in the league but I feel they are better than last year.

Looking at my Avatar you would expect me to choose Calgary as most improved team but I feel Calgary has some question marks. First Roman Cervenka has not played on an NHL size rink which could cause some problems in his first year in the NHL as their will be an adjustment period where he could have a slow start. Second Calgary does not have any real offensive d-man and hoping Dennis Wideman is the guy but since Calgary has kept most of their d-man from last year it could cause some problems for Wideman as most of the d-man are defensive d-man. Third Jiri Hudler has only scored 20+ goals twice in the NHL and unless he can find quick chemistry with his new teammates he will struggle in cowtown.

Carolina or Minnesota would be the obvious answers IMO.

My pick is Carolina.

Liferleafer 08-02-2012 12:13 PM

Minny/Carolina....even split for me.

BoobaFett 08-02-2012 12:15 PM

I'm going with Minnesota.

I think Dallas should get a mention as well tho

Alexander Baigle 08-02-2012 12:16 PM

Toronto Maple Leafs :sarcasm:

Wild, Canes and Rangers all made big moves. You caould make a case for all three.

I really like what Carolina has done. They seriously needed to add offense, and spared no expense in doing so. The Staal brothers make for one of the best center duos outside of Pitt. And Semin was a great signing, giving them lots of potent options up front. The forwards haven't looked this strong in Carolina since their cup run when Brind'Amour was still a force.

Minnesota
Carolina
Tampa Bay

Definitely Carolina. Although I would rather see Eric and Jordan as a 1-2 punch down the middle rather than them playing on the same line. Balances out the scoring for a team with great wingers.

Kane One 08-02-2012 12:22 PM

Minnesota

Grant 08-02-2012 12:24 PM

Could make a case for Edmonton with Schultz signing, Yakupov drafting and all of Dubnyk, Eberle, Hall and RNH all being 1 year older. Colorado is similar with their young guys being 1 year older + PAP signing is pretty solid.

hockeydoug 08-02-2012 12:26 PM

Most improved:

Minnesota
Carolina
Dallas

I was going to say this.

Carolina
Minnesota
Edmonton
Colorado

The NW Division might be interesting for the first time in a long time now.

Lost: absolutely nothing of importance

Gained: top 6 LW, top pairing D, top 5 forward prospect, miscellaneous bottom 6 NHL PLAYERS (cannot stress that enough)

We did ok.

They got a better goaltender, and signed Carle and Salo to help their blueline.

Edmonton to improve and make the playoffs they need a new #1 goalie and I mean a good goalie and fix their defense then I believe they can be a threat in the NW division. Until then they will miss the playoff again

I'm on my phone, so I can't really link the information, but you should look at Dubnyk's stats from January 1st on, they were quite respectable.

Carle is a negative.
