I love what I've seen of Reinhart. He's big, he can play physical (doesn't have a natural mean streak, though), is great at clearing the crease and keeping forwards out of the crease and I really think he has underrated puck skills that a good coach might be able to encourage and make him even more of a 2-way threat. Then again, I was the one who thought Luke Schenn had untapped offensive potential, too.

Isles need to hit cap floor somehow.

Deal. Then we can hopefully go and sign Hannan.

Yeah, I bet Garth is the one who proposes it too.

Congrats to Reinhart on his first pro contract:handclap:

Congrats NY Islanders fans. I just hope they take the time with his development (even if others don't expect it).

The press has been saying for over a month that Snow expects the cap to drop.Reinhart won't be making the NYI roster, so Snow can reach the floor.

He'll have to leapfrog 22 yr old Donovan who's coming off a huge rookie season in the AHL:4th in scoring among all AHL d-men.

And 21 yr old De Haan, who was named to the AHL all star team in 2011-2012.
He was working on the weak parts of his game and one recent prospect article, says he was the Sound Tigers best d-man by the end of the season.

I would rather see Snow go out and replace Vis now, not wait for the arbitation hearing, but Snow looks determined to wait.

Streit
Hamonic
Vis
MacDonald
Carkner
Donovan/De Haan/ Ness

Isles don't have deep enough pockets to pay a 3rd pairing defenseman, $3.5m in actual salary.

Won't count if Reinhart goes back to the Dub.

drmagg 08-03-2012 12:28 AM

good

ProstheticConscience 08-03-2012 01:17 AM

Have to admit I was hoping he'd fall far enough for the Canucks to grab him. His dad went out far too soon.

Good deal for NYI.

Didn't Canucks pick like 26th overall or something? That would have been a monumental fall.

PWJunior 08-03-2012 01:37 AM

While it seemingly looks like a typical move for a high draft pick, Reinhart will start the season in the show next season. The Isles have done this with all of their picks under Snow's tenure. Gives him a taste of the NHL, a little spending money, NHL practices, and possibly some game action. He's a big, strong kid so he actually may play a game or two unlike Strome last year. In any case, I'm very confident he'll be back in Edmonton after the first 2 weeks or so. It's a reward by the organization for all of his hard work and the Isles are not afraid to keep him for the season if he shows he belongs as they've shown in the past. It may be another rush job, but he could fill a huge need for this team considering the whole Visnovsky situation. Right or wrong, he's considered a potential franchise d-man and there have been some other similarly rated high picks that have stepped in right away and contributed.

Well...yeah. That's kind of the point. I was also hoping Evander Kane would fall far enough for us to snag him, but of course that was a pipe dream.

GL to Griffin and Isles fans once Wang sells the team.
