Haviland back to Norfolk

Just saw it on Twitter. Haviland will return to the Norfolk Admirals as associate coach under Trent Yawney.

Hawkaholic 08-03-2012 04:03 PM

Hope they enjoy a ****** special teams.

DisgruntledHawkFan 08-03-2012 04:42 PM

Yawney wasn't anything special as a coach, but he was given a whole lot of nothing to work with.

Teravainen 08-03-2012 04:43 PM

Really liked Havvy, gonna miss him.

HockeySensible 08-03-2012 06:20 PM

Surprised he didn't get a job with an NHL team.. maybe Q knows a thing or two afterall. Good luck Havi.

hockeydoug 08-03-2012 06:29 PM

His new size didn't project well.

Still surprised he wasn't hired to a front office or a bench with a big team.

Bubba88 08-04-2012 07:22 AM

not even as HC??? wow, wouldn't have thought that

No Fun Shogun 08-04-2012 08:28 AM

Shame he couldn't get a head coaching gig.

Your hate is both incorrect and misguided.

Just goes along with all your other clueless posts.

digdug41982 08-04-2012 11:12 AM

I ****ing hated Yawney, most boring Hawks teams ever.

Right, because his special teams was so good without a stacked team.

PP was as bad as PK... it never got better after they changed the coaches. Havi is to blame for the STs as is Kitchen.
He is right about this.

Still think Havi should have been the coach to stay. He never missed the POs ;)

BobbyJet 08-05-2012 07:02 PM

So much for Havi being sought after in the NHL. Truth is, many Hawk fans loved to think Havi was the cat's ass, based on what, I'm not sure .... but according to supply and demand he really wasn't.

no, havi was the kinda pushover that would be able to conjure a good year or 2 from a solid veteran team, but would get eaten alive trying to manage youth/declining guys.

No Fun Shogun 08-05-2012 08:38 PM

Well, if memory serves, he was one of the frontrunners for the Capitals and Flames gigs this past offseason. Hopefully that indicates that other teams would be strongly interested in him in the near future, too.

Bubba88 08-06-2012 12:33 AM

he was also in the running for the Devils job and 1-2 more the year before.

Wonder why he didn't even get a AHL HC job. Maybe there aren't many spots open in the end

TurdFerguson 08-14-2012 07:01 PM

Didn't Winnipeg want him last season?

Whatever, I just hope we get some good special teams this upcoming season.

Or maybe he isn't that good a coach.... which is more likely.

Bubba88 08-15-2012 06:44 AM

I think it's a combination of both

digdug41982 08-15-2012 09:05 AM

Ever think he may not want a head coaching job in the AHL?

Hawkaholic 08-15-2012 09:14 AM

Right, he would rather be an assistant in the AHL.

Who would rather be an assistant than a head coach in any league?

Someone who doesn't want to make any commitments so he can leave on the fly to take an NHL spot. What team would even hire a head coach knowing full well he will leave in the middle of his first season if an NHL job becomes available.

The Milwaukee Admirals did it last year with Kirk Muller.

Everyone involved knew he was only there so he could put head coach in a professional league somewhere on his résumé, which it was believed was the only thing left that he needed in order to get an NHL head coaching job. There weren't even any clauses in his contract to keep him from snatching that job with the Hurricanes only one month into the season.

Yeah, that is true, good point. However, Havi has many years experience as head coach. IMO, my theory is the correct one, he just found something to do while we waits and is doing it where he has friends and is comfortable. He has nothing to prove as an AHL head coach and likely doesn't need the extra money or the headache.

Bubba88 08-15-2012 02:59 PM

or what I think is possible... he knows that Norfolk is successfull and that they may need a new headcoach because a team that's desperate would give Yawney another chance
