Dustin Brown vs Ryan Callahan

Who will have the best season ?

Dustin Brown

Last season:
82 Game played, 22 goals, 32 assists, 54 points, +18, 9 powerplay goals, 1 SH goal, 6 game winning goals.

Stanley cup winner
or

Ryan Callahan

Last season:
76 game played, 29 goals, 25 assists, 54 points, -8, 13 powerplay goals, 1 SH goal, 9 game winning goals.

Brown is easily the better player, so him. He also gets to play with Kopitar.

The Rangers did not win the Presidents Trophy. They'll be better off if Callahan is on the 3rd line, anyway.

sorry gonna fix that

Rangerfan4life90 08-04-2012 12:33 AM

Like both their games. Almost comparable players.

I vote even.

SlingshotVv 08-04-2012 12:34 AM

The two guys I'd LOVE to see on the same team more than anyone else.

Actually, maybe Cally, Brown, and Backes.

Machinehead 08-04-2012 12:39 AM

I'm expecting alot of "BROWN EASILY AINEC ROFTLMAOZOMGBBQ~!!!!1!!11!!" because of his impressive playoff run, but in reality it's very close.

Callahan was the better player this regular season, probably a better goal scorer overall, better hitter, better defensively. Brown however is a better passer and has hit the 30/60 plateaus which Callahan has yet to get to due to his inability to play 82 games year in and year out.

Nobody who scores 29 goals is going on anyone's 3rd line anywhere outside of the Olympics or the All-Star game.

This should be a 3 man race with David Backes, but people think he's automatically better because he moved to center this year. People overrate the position of center in general.

Tyler Biggs 08-04-2012 12:46 AM

Brown is the better player so I will go with him for having the better season.

I'm no American, but just imagining a Callahan - Backes - Brown line at the olympics is pretty scary.

That -8 is ugly, especially while playing on one of the top defensive teams in the NHL.

Yeah, like +/- really tells the whole story:shakehead

Machinehead 08-04-2012 12:59 AM

+/-my ass, Ryan Callahan is one of the best defensive wingers in the game.

He was at his best while playing alongside AA/Dubi, after all.

I'm not trying to **** on Callahan anyway. More just pointing out how odd it is that one of the best defensive wingers in the game on a top defensive team ended up with a -8. Maybe proves how useless of a stat plus /minus truly is.

And it doesn't change the fact that the "-8 is ugly", which was my original comment.

I think alot of that was playing with Brad Richards most of the year, who for all his value, is not great defensively.

Brownie

Sasso09 08-04-2012 02:25 AM

Brown, He's the better player.

InjuredChoker 08-04-2012 02:35 AM

Brown.

PhillyBluesFan 08-04-2012 03:45 AM

Very similar but Brown is faster and a little more physical

Net Front Presence 08-04-2012 04:16 AM

Went even on this one. Very similar players.

Krishna 08-04-2012 10:18 AM

Pointing out stats and then saying, "my ass" afterwards doesn't make that stat any less significant.

King Forsberg 08-04-2012 11:19 AM

Dustin Brown. I think he's a better leader and player.

Sydor25 08-04-2012 11:29 AM

Dustin Brown AINEC ;)

Brown went full beast mode once Lombardi took him out of his comfort zone by floating his name in trade rumors. I expect a huge season from Brown next season. Both Kopitar and Brown should be more consistent next season with Sutter for a full season.

Backes has been the Blues number one center for a few seasons now...

Brown just rubs me the wrong way, like a much more skilled version of Tootoo. So Callahan for me, but it is really close, and if I based it only on skill I might go with Brown.
