It looks like we are going to be able to get Jeff Skinner tied up for a number of years. Exciting news for our franchise.
Any guesses on term and money?

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has signed forward Jeff Skinner to a six-year contract extension. The deal will pay Skinner $4,350,000 in 2013-14 and $6 million per season from the 2014-15 season through the 2018-19 season.

Metro Misfits 08-07-2012 06:49 PM

7y 35m?

Seen that tweet too.

LickTheEnvelope 08-07-2012 06:49 PM

6 years, $24 mil?

Hopefully not too much above league minimum. Skinner needs serious work on pretty much all aspects of hockey other than puckhogging and diving.

Rutherford uses twitter?

SLAPSHOT723 08-07-2012 06:52 PM

Should be around the same as Tavares.

Metro Misfits 08-07-2012 06:53 PM

Forslund reporting the same thing.

Not very prolifically. He has 24 tweets total, but it is really him.

31 and 20 goals in his first two season in the NHL. How many of those types of players earn 'not too much above league minimum' on an extension?

HockeySensible 08-07-2012 07:00 PM

5 years with an AAV of 4.4-4.8M.

I know 29 other teams who would love to have that diving puckhog for a lot more than league minimum.

Since we can't trust the general manager?

JT8888 08-07-2012 07:01 PM

kings will take the puck hogging diver if the canes don't want him

HockeySensible 08-07-2012 07:02 PM

I'm pretty sure the puckhog/diving comment was meant to be a joke/sarcastic.. seems too obvious.

Boom Boom Anton 08-07-2012 07:03 PM

Some of you guys are getting sucked in by one of the best.

It's unrealistic of me to expect it, sure, but he's not really worth much more. He scores a lot of goals, but needs to be sheltered away from tough competition because he's terrible defensively, takes tons of bad penalties, doesn't utilize his linemates, and spent the entirety of his time after his concussion crying every time he got hit.

Lots of players would score 20 goals if they refused to share the puck or put in any effort defensively. Doesn't make them good hockey players.

LyricalLyricist 08-07-2012 07:04 PM

Man, I need to see that gif of him. You know which.

Gotta be less. I think he gets a flat 5 million over 6 years.

Can't trust it until someone from TSN tweets it. :sarcasm:

That's great. Carolina's org has stepped it up and proven themselves to their players and they're dong the same.
