Tyler Seguin's next contract...

With Skinner now signing for an average of 5.725 million a season for the next season, I really feel sorry for Boston because I have a sneaky feeling Seguin is going to get that plus a little more. Between 6-7 million given his pedigree.

Helped win a Stanley Cup, NHL All-Star and continuing to get better on a good Boston team.

What do you think Seguin's next contract is going to be?

3 goals, 4 assists for 7 points in 13 games isn't that bad for a rookie.

TOML 08-08-2012 01:45 PM

Who knows... Maybe he'll Kessel his way outta town. jk

Horton UFA, Lucic, Marchand, Ference UFA, Rask and Seguin are all up next summer. Only a concern if one or two of those guys want a significant raise. Cheers.

Wouldn't be too bad if Boston only played 13 games

But when he did play, he made it count.

That's a coaching decision not to give a ton of ice-time to a kid during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. That isn't a reflection of his talent

Fastasaurus 08-08-2012 01:50 PM

10 years 62 mil

bassassin 08-08-2012 01:50 PM

Tavares 5 years $5.5 million
Stamkos 5 years $7.5 million

No he doesn't deserve $7 million, even if him signing is a couple of years on from these.

sal00 08-08-2012 01:51 PM

He'll probably get Krejci money

lol it was joke I know he had impact on the cup run, but I don't want to get into amount of impact b/c I'm obviously biased as a Bruins fan.

And no way is he making Krejci money (that was a big time hometown discount), Seguin would probably be demanding 6mill +

Cap hits and salaries change.

Didn't he have a 4p game? By the logic I have read from anti-Gagner posters we can disregard that night so he really only got 3p in 12 games. ;)

I expect Seguin's agent will likely wait until Hall and Eberle resign so he has more ammunition to throw at Boston. My guess is that he will get something in the 6.0-6.25M for 5 or 6 years range.

Dellstrom 08-08-2012 01:57 PM

Depending on his season, I wouldn't mind giving Seguin 5.5-6m at all. Most likely a 5 year deal. He already led the team in points, why shouldn't he get more than Krejci?

Also highly depends on the CBA.

You have reason to believe his agent is smarter than theirs ?

Assuming he improves on his 67 points season, which seems likely, I'd agree he's in the 5-6 range. I won't speculate on term until the new CBA is agreed on but since he has star potential a short term deal is in his best interests.

Erza Scarlet 08-08-2012 02:25 PM

well if he produces more than Krecji and I think he will and with his upside, and considering what Skinner is getting (I expect Bruins to buy UFA years), I'm expecting a 6-6.5 million dollar contract.

He didn't, but that's not the argument his agent is going to make.

If he doesn't do what he did in game 2 of the ECF the Bruins go back to Tampa down 0-2 and are in BIG trouble.

On topic: it all depends on the new CBA.

No I think the Oilers have more cap space to play with and that may mean higher numbers for Hall and Eberle. And that Seguin agent will want to use those comparables when he talks to Boston.

Besides the fact that we'd be done in 6 if he didn't play, yeah. Sure.

Perhaps if you had a different player, you wouldn't have had 3 game 7s en route to the cup.

I think it's safe to say that GMs don't really give a **** about playoff performance over such a small sample size.

Seguin will get a ~6m contract not because of the cup stuff, but because he's a fantastic young player.

Richard Murray 08-08-2012 03:53 PM

Seguin will probably catch a very similar contract to Skinner. Skinner had a much better rookie campaign than Seguin. If Skinner isn't hurt last season the two probably finish with very similar point production totals.

I don't think it is going too be much less or more.

Bonecrusher11 08-08-2012 04:03 PM

Chiarelli will pay him what he's worth, I'm expecting his contract to take him to his last year of RFA status, whenever that is regarding the new CBA.
