Requesting scouting report on Bud Hollway (Skelleftea HC)

Hello!

I am visiting from the LA Kings BBS.

One of the Kings' prospects, Bud Holloway, played this past season in Sweden,
with Skelleftea. Therefore, Kings fans have not been able to follow his development.

I am humbly asking for any "scouting reports" or observations of Bud Holloway by fans who actually saw him play in some games, if possible.

Holloway broke the record for SEL playoff scoring, which sounds like a
pretty big achievement. He had a good regular season too, leading
his team in scoring. But that is just what I read.

Many Kings fans wonder about Holloway---Is he a complete player who can
play well defensively? Is he physical at all? How talented a scorer does he seem to be? And finally, is he good enough to play a significant role in the NHL?

I don't know if anyone on your board has seen Holloway play.

But any observations of Holloway would be deeply appreciated.

Skellefteċ AIK*

I'd say he's a poor mans Stamkos (and that's a huge compliment), very useful on the PP where he scored most his points. I haven't really seen him excel at the physical nor defensive parts of the game, but I should say that he plays on probably the most offensive minded team in the league.

It's very hard to say how good he would do in the NHL, seeing how some guys who dominates SEL doesn't make it in NHL at all.

You wont get any help with that HC in the title... :sarcasm:

Excellent shot, great to have on point in the PP. Good skater and very creative. Got better and better as the season progressed and was fantastic in the playoffs ('clutch' is the term, I belive?)
Doesn't throw a lot of hits but doesn't shy away from the physical game either. Always there to stick up for his teammates . As previously said, Skellefteċ is a very offensive-minded team so it's difficult to judge his defensive abilities as he didn't play on the PK. (We had some of the best defensive forwards in the league on that job.)

Great attitude on and off the ice as well.
Small anecdote: Apparently one of the first things he did when he came to Skellefteċ last year was to get up in front of a whole lot of people to sing country songs at a local food festival. Seems to become a fan-favorite wherever he goes.

Honestly, no one in Skellefteċ belived we'd be able to sign him to another year. Guy deserves a shot at the NHL.

He's involved in half of these, #11:

And when being interviewed by Mikael Renberg in Sweden's biggest icehockey TV-show, he also delivered a country song, on prime time national television :handclap:

In interviews he always struck me as a happy smiling person full of jokes.
And just now I found this photo, and found it hilarious.
Even when being occupied by a fight, he makes a pause and smiles to the camera

Bud was instrumental tonight in the season opener.
He had four assists and was +5, leading his team to a 5-1 win.

So, 21 points in 15 games. He is torching the SEL right now.

Just wondering what kind of improvements he has made to his game this year, if any? Does he look as dominant out on the ice as he does on the stat sheet?

Any updates anyone has would be much appreciated :).

Watch him occasionally and not every week so... He's not improved from last season but playing at the same level. His team and linemates are so good so he's getting that help he needs to have good numbers. Lots of his assist are goals scored from his rebounds and not playmaking assists.

69 SOG and he's second in the league with that, he sure likes to fire away...

Zibanejad 11-17-2012 05:30 PM

scored a senstional hattrick today after only 12min and now he's scored 6 of his 10 against rögle. Anyway, he's leading the league in points now, though 6 goals off Söderberg who leads with 16 which is off the charts...

SurMartin 11-20-2012 05:53 PM

35p in 24 games, on an 80p pace now. (76p is the all-time record.)

I don't think he's gonna catch Loob, and that was with way shorter seasons anyway, but could see him approaching the second highest season which is surprisingly low if you ask me.

Systemfel 11-20-2012 11:20 PM

Yeah, if he scores 80 points in 55 games, that's a 1.45 PPG.

Loob had a 2.11 PPG average in '82-83.

2.11 in 55 games would be 116 points.

SurMartin 11-21-2012 01:55 AM

You could still make the argument that it was easier to score on the goalies back then and so on. ;) Counting PPG instead of points would put most of todays SEL-players to shame.
Highest scoring ever in Skellefteċ in SEL is Martin Karlsson in '77-78 with 63p (in 36 games). Safe to say that record is threatened by both Holloway and Lindström.

Thanks boss. From what I recall, he does have a pretty booming shot? So no surprise he really likes to fire away on goal.

I think he could be a good 3rd liner in NHL.
