The 2012 Canada-Russia Challenge

The 2012 Canada-Russia Challenge, which see the top junior players from each country competing in a four game series begins at 11am et/8am pt on TSN, and TSN Mobile TV.

Team Canada's roster features 13 NHL first-round draft picks including the Florida Panthers' Jonathan Huberdeau, the Columbus Blue Jackets' Ryan Murray, the Winnipeg Jets' Mark Scheifele and the Toronto Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly.

Should be a good game.

Anyway to see the lineup? How many games is he going to get into?

IBeL13f 08-09-2012 08:22 AM

Anyone know if this will be streamed anywhere? TSN's doing radio coverage, but aren't putting the games online.

Tony Clifton Leaf 08-09-2012 08:41 AM

Rielly's wearing number 5. I'm assiming Canada won't be dressing all 10 D-men on the roster; hopefully Rielly gets a lot of ice time.

This should be great for helping Rielly be 100 % ready for next season.

Auzzie19 08-09-2012 08:48 AM

Wait why isn't the most highly touted prospect of the draft, MacKinnon on the roster over Shinkaruk/Monohan?

http://www.tsn.ca/world_jrs/story/?id=396734

"As reported by Metro Halifax on Wednesday, MacKinnon - the 16-year-old star who could go first overall in next year's NHL Draft - will not be able to take part in the four-game primer for the 2013 World Junior Hockey Championship.

The rule says players 17 and younger who have not been a part of Canada's summer Under-18 program are not eligible to participate in the Under-20 development camp. Hockey Canada announced earlier this month that the Canada-Russia Challenge - which has games at the Halifax Metro Centre on Aug. 13 and 14 - would replace its usual summer evaluation camp this year."

Russia will have Nail Yakupov and Mikhail Grigorenko

I was hoping we would draft Grigorenko however it should be interesting to see how he plays against some players in his draft year.

Any word on a stream? I'm stuck at work but would love to watch this.

This is the perfect stage for him to prove a lot of people wrong, it'll be interesting to see if he grabs it and shuts up his critics.

Rielly? I haven't really heard anyone complain about us picking him.

TheNorthFace 08-09-2012 09:11 AM

Hoping Rielly shines here. Not sure how much ice time he will see though. Guess we'll know more come game time.

Rob Brown 08-09-2012 09:39 AM

Going to the game on Tuesday here in Halifax. Should be a good time.

Well I certainly envy you, this has been one long hot summer and just to watch hockey on TV, with a player just signed by the Leafs is just great but seeing it in person would be indescribable.

The East Coast, is becoming a real hot hockey venue and maybe an NHL team will be there, in the not to distant future.

Yeah. I'm pretty excited, hopefully Rielly gets lots of time. Wish I had a jersey of his .

tpc77 08-09-2012 09:59 AM

I'll be heading to both games next week. Only worry is that the Candadian D are a deep group and Rielly may not play a lot or might even sit one of the games.

I doubt they are dressing all the D on the roster each game. Does anyone have any info on Team Canada's plans?

Budsfan 08-09-2012 10:01 AM

Well it's about to begin on TSN2

htpwn 08-09-2012 10:01 AM

Sweet, Dennis Beyak is doing the PBP.

People definitely love the game and could support an NHL team here from an attendance stand point.

However, we would have issues with corporate dollars, merchandise, tv contracts etc. due to the smallish population.

But I'm with you, I would LOVE an NHL team to be here someday. I am hoping within 10ish years we are in serious talks to bring one here.

At 400,000 people in HRM (Halifax's version of GTA) we are getting there. We just need a rich local guy to want to bring a team here and spends the cash to do so.

(Sidney Crosby in retirement? ;))
