Huet in talks with VAN and LA [Lu/Bernier deals?]

Quote:

«Je suis encore dans l'indécision, explique-t-il à L'Équipe ce mardi. Quelques choix s'offrent à moi, je vais avoir des décisions importantes à prendre (...) Est-ce que je dois laisser tomber ?» Le portier français hésite entre poursuivre sa carrière en Suisse, notamment à Lausanne, ou patienter encore devant la porte américaine. «Il y a des contacts, je fais partie de la liste pour Vancouver et Los Angeles.»

"I'm mired in indecision, he explains to L'Equipe on Tuesday [in an interview]. A few options are available to me, I'm going to have some important decisions to make."...The French goaltender is pondering whether to continue his career in Switzerland with Lausanne or to keep pursuing the American [NHL] route. "I've been in talks, I'm part of the mix for Vancouver and Los Angeles."
I, for one, think he could be a nice low-risk signing for either of those teams as a veteran backup.

I guess my question is, if it's Vancouver, is there a deal in place for "he who's name we shall not speak"? (every time a Leaf fan says his name, the thread gets locked)

The only silver lining is that it seems a Luongo trade is very close to completion. I'm not sure if I'd rather have Lack or Huet, though.

FishManSam 08-10-2012 08:51 AM

Interesting, if either team signs him, it means either Bernier or Luongo is gone.

Exactly what I thought when I read this.

Brian Burke....lurking behind the scenes.

It also came out yesterday that Quick had (minor) back surgery and might not be ready for the start of training camp. See Kings board.

Not sure why Huet would consider a part time job......

I'm sure that job would entail the backup position if Bernier is dealt and they need a stopgap, no?

I don’t believe Bernier will be traded now.

Sorry, thought he was saying that was the reason they were interested in Huet. (Quick's injury not Bernier trade)

Just adding a data point. Have no idea what the team's plans are for Bernier or Huet.

AtlantaWhaler 08-10-2012 09:05 AM

"In talks" may just mean GMs gauging interest. Could of happened months ago. Pretty vague.

Hawkaholic 08-10-2012 09:13 AM

I sure hope one of these teams add Huet, hopefully they play him against Chicago too.

This is HFBoards, where one bad year makes you awful and useless forever and one good year makes you worth more than your GM is willing to pay.

THE Smoke Monster 08-10-2012 09:37 AM

Maybe he meant the Vancouver Giants and Los Angeles Blades.

digdug41982 08-10-2012 09:42 AM

Who would you rather have, Emery or Huet? Because I would much rather sign Huet and trade Emery to Vancouver or L.A.

Canuckle 08-10-2012 09:43 AM

Lack can benefit with another season in the AHL as starting goalie, but at the same time I'd love to see Huet signing with the Kings see that he started his career with them.

Reign Nateo 08-10-2012 10:11 AM

Makes sense for both teams. Canucks won't go into camp with Schneider and Lack, they'll bring in another vet to push Lack for the back-up spot. You need competition in camp and there is not much else ready (unless you count Matt Climie) beyond the two young goalies once Luongo is traded. So Huet makes sense as he'll probably settle for a try-out, see how camp goes and then try to latch on somewhere.

Yeah, I guess we do need a replacement for Lack in the minors:p:
