Will be interesting to see where we end up. My guess is 9 or 10.

That's probably about accurate. I can't seeing them predicting us to be division champions or even finish in 2nd in the division either.

Laus723 08-13-2012 03:35 PM

Meh, don't care. I've learned that the experts...aren't. They have opinions, do research, etc, but teams still have to come out and play. Again, they had us 14th last year and we finished...yeah .

Holy Jokinen 08-13-2012 04:06 PM

Nice to see 5 out of the 6 Canadian teams already out of it and only one "southern" team on there. :)

Lol, true

Pantherfan12 08-13-2012 04:22 PM

Yeah, I agree. These "experts" are self-proclaimed experts really. When it comes down to it, no one can predict the future and no matter what paper says it comes down to playing hockey. I can see us winning the division again but I'm not sure why. I know it seems as though Washington or Caro can be division champs but I feel as though we are the more complete team compared to them. Our coaching is better, our team seems more complete. I think like a lot of other teams, we have question marks with regards to certain things but I don't see us missing the post season and I don't think we'll struggle.

You do remember that there's 7 Canadian teams now, right?

It's great that we're earning some respect.

But.. underrated >>> overrated

Panteras 08-13-2012 05:33 PM

I'll be thankful if we just have a season....

JP Mick 08-13-2012 10:56 PM

We won't win the division, but we will make the playoffs. That's my bold prediction.

Right, I get it. It's night impossible to predict this stuff, despite hockey knowledge and blah blah blah. I look at this kind of stuff as a Respect-o-meter. Some might say that they don't care what others think. Personally, I'd like our team to be taken seriously. Looks like things are definitely heading that way.

jakethesnake23 08-14-2012 05:42 AM

The only way to get respect is to earn it.

10 years of missing the playoffs = no respect
Making the playoffs = a little bit of respect
Making the playoffs again = proper respect

At the moment we are a team that has made it once in 11 years. I wouldnt look for people to beat my chest in front of yet.

I don't think we'll get it until a generation or two passes, tbh. When the team has been here awhile and adults are used to it because the teams have been around their whole lives. Did Tampa get that much respect after winnin the Cup? Carolina? Does Nashville get very much? They were a bit more feared in terms of playing against them, nashville still is, but I don't know much actual respect they get. Northerners for a large majority dislike our existence. Fine by me, I love it!

You are right, "respect" in terms of the history of the game, perception from Northern markets, etc, will probably never come... I was referring to "respect" in a more strict hockey sense. The latter will come with consistent winning, and lets not get angry if someone doesnt think we win the Cup this year. Theres just no point wasting any energy on it.

I'm with ya Laus. Personally, I could care less what those yankees and carpetbaggers think. Let 'em hate. Makes it sweeter when they go home cryin'.

10 FLORIDA PANTHERS
Why: The Panthers may have won the Southeast last season, but no one backed into the playoffs the way they did. Florida’s success mostly had to do with the early-season explosions from Kris Versteeg, Tomas Fleischmann and Jason Garrison, among others, but faded down the stretch. It’s hard to believe things will go as smoothly this year and we’re betting the Panthers will end up being a flash in the pan.
Thoughts?

angry_treefrog 08-14-2012 10:27 AM

I'm happy with these kind of predictions.

Nothing that wasn't expected. Business as usual.

FlaPnthrsPunk 08-14-2012 12:56 PM

After the outcome of last season, I feel like I can almost never trust predictions with more than a grain of salt anymore. But, hey we're predicted higher than season, right?

Experts and THN belong nowhere near each other, be it by print or spoken word.

I'm bankin on us being better than last year.

I'm ok with THN for the most part. Adam Proteau writes absolute garbage though.

I think we'll be the same if not better. I'm less certain about winning the division than getting a playoff spot. You read it here first: Luis predicts Panthers at 7th!

Dr Beinfest 08-14-2012 06:04 PM

'Backing into the playoffs' is a poor way to put it when you consider that we gave the Eastern Conference Champions their biggest challenge, taking them to game 7 2OT.

I mean don't get me wrong I'm not saying we deserve any better or any worse. I tend to dislike trying to predict standings from before the season. But... if you're going to try, at least use your words properly.

'Backing in' is a terrible term. Especially since we led the division basically the entire year. Can't help it that teams couldn't catch up. Lol
