Alex Kovalev eyeing NHL comeback

From @NHLwiki 's twitter:

Alex Kovalev to Allhockey.Ru: "I am going to North America. I have offers from several teams''

Not a chance, the guy sucks now

roboninja 08-16-2012 08:29 AM

I call BS on the "offers from several teams" bit. Most likely a few teams have said "yeah, we'll take a look".

Habs 4 Life 08-16-2012 08:32 AM

God I hope it's not with the Habs

KreiMeARiver* 08-16-2012 08:36 AM

Yeah, several ECHL teams...

nmbr_24 08-16-2012 08:39 AM

pretty good powerplay guy, maybe if a team was to use him as a specialist and give him aroud 5 minutes of ice time and pay him around $1 million.

Do Make Say Think 08-16-2012 08:44 AM

I don't believe the several offers part either, not with the CBA issues

Confound 08-16-2012 08:47 AM

I don't want him in a spoked B!

Knowing Chia though he loves his former habs and this could be another Begin/Ryder/Pouliot scenario.

I don't dount that he has offers from other teams, I just don't know if they're contract offers or training camp invites.

thelos 08-16-2012 09:29 AM

maybe he will join the old foggies in Dallas

Trap Jesus 08-16-2012 09:30 AM

Don't think he's got a shot. He'd still probably light up the B's though...

King Woodballs 08-16-2012 09:32 AM

Several teams = no teams
He is just trying to draw interest from someone

Sureves 08-16-2012 09:33 AM

This guy is not even remotely close to an NHL player. He's lying unless he's talking about AHL/ECHL teams.

Rinzler 08-16-2012 09:34 AM

Everyone trying to ride the gravy train. :)

beowulf 08-16-2012 09:38 AM

He wasted fuel for his plane coming here since there will be no season anyways.

Kovalev has so much skill with the puck but his athleticism and work ethic leaves a lot to be desired. I'd rather have a 3rd line grinder who works his butt off and scores 15 goals + can play defence than Kovalev scoring 25-30 goals.

Shrimper 08-16-2012 09:49 AM

He said a few months ago that he was coming back.

Anyone who takes him on would be stupid if they want anything as a product on the ice. Off the ice it makes complete sense as he'd be a good role model and tutor to the younger players but he's not that good anymore.

Skobel24 08-16-2012 09:52 AM

To be fair, he didn't say NHL teams. He just said he's coming back to North America. He could wind up in the AHL for all we know.

Petes2424 08-16-2012 10:26 AM

He could have several invite offers. Doubt he has one way offers.

Came to post this. Teams offer camp invites to all sorts of guys. If Andre Roy can get a camp invite, I'm sure Kovalev can.

"I've received invitations to training camps and hopefully (can) begin skating towards the end of August to be ready for next season (in the NHL)," he told the Quebec-based sports channel.

If Alex Kovalev were a car he'd look like this:

Dellstrom 08-16-2012 10:43 AM

Honestly I'd be fine if Chiarelli picks him up.

At worst, he's an addition to a vastly improved team in Providence. Caron, Knight, Spooner, and Bourque are all challenging for the 3rd line wing position, why not add some competition? Chia loves his ex-Habs. We'll see. Won't care if we steer clear either.

PeterForsberg 08-16-2012 10:44 AM

He is a player who went down hill fast...
