Canucks and Burrows - Agent hoping to negotiate deal today (Sep 14)

I don't know if this has been posted in here but there is a That's Hockey video saying that the Canucks are in contract negotiations with Burrows. Good news.

I was half paying attention. Did they say $4M AAV long-term made sense?

Steve Johnson said $4 million makes sense for the Canucks but he said Burrows deserves to get paid every little penny he gets.

JonathanTwinkleToews 08-16-2012 08:55 PM

I'd go 16 million over 4 years for a 4M/yr avg.

Pay him for the numbers he produces, and all the other facets of the game he brings, but also realize the fact that a lot of that stems from playing with the Sedins.

At the end of the day, Burrows is 2/3rd line tweener, who can elevate to 2nd line production when playing with the Sedins.

Basso 08-16-2012 08:58 PM

4.5-5 per year is only fair for a 30 goal scorer and the discount he gave us for 4 years!

Tim Calhoun 08-16-2012 09:02 PM

Great, it looks like we'll be stuck with Burrows even longer.

Hammer79 08-16-2012 09:02 PM

I'd be comfortable with $4M-$4.5M. Any more than that and it would be worth looking elsewhere.

I know, who needs heart and soul? Not this team, we have tons :sarcasm:

Is is some failed attempt at humor?

I can't imagine Burr playing for another team, and I can't really picture someone who we could get to replace him. I'd be very happy if we got him for $4 mill a year or so.

stuck with him? oh boy. Guess winning that series against Chicago and beating Boston in Game 2, and having a solid PK man at 2M for the past 4 years means nothing.

Is that Willie Mitchell's son?
I mean the face, LA cap... it all makes too much sense

The impending new CBA could work in our favour on this one. You know Burrows is going to want to get this contract done before the new CBA is settled, as signing after it's done could mean significantly less for him. The likely eagerness to get a deal done from both sides could work out in our favour.

I'd also expect something like 5 years @ $20 million.

aandbreatheme 08-16-2012 10:38 PM

What about Edler? :skeptic:

Derp Kassian 08-16-2012 10:43 PM

4.5 for Burr 5 for Edler

BoHorvatFan 08-16-2012 10:48 PM

Paying for past performance is stupid. If we think he will be worth 4 million per going forward then give it to him. What he's done in the past should have no impact on his contract. There's a cap and every penny counts, no room to be ''loyal'' or nice the goal is to win.

i wouldn't necessarily call 25-30 goals, with the potential for more in a good year 2nd line production. the vast majority of guys who score in that range are solid first liners.

but yeah, $16 million/4 is probably the most hometowny discount we can expect. $4.5 million per is fair, and he could probably get $5.5 million with term easy on the open market.

Well that just doesn't make any sense. Then how do you evaluate a player if you don't look at their past performance?

Burrows is good, but I'm iffy about paying 4.5-5 for 4 years when he is not nearly he same player without the Sedin's.

Getting your looks compared to Willie Mitchell.... ouch. :D

LiquidSnake 08-16-2012 11:19 PM

4.5m makes sense. Would be ok with close to 5.

Guy deserves it. His presence on this team is invaluable and I'm not the least surprised that some dont understand that.

Alex Burrows, do we really need him? :sarcasm:

Tim Calhoun, I demand you explain yourself.

Pay the man what he wants, there's no team without him.
