Voted for Kyle Jean. I suspect a lot of people will feel very foolish in the next poll if he's not in our top-20.

EvilCorporateLawyer 08-18-2012 09:36 PM

Ceresnak.

Add Sven Helfenstein.

While KJ deserves to be there and some who got in don't, IMO, went with Ceresnak who needs to overcome limitations but could still = solid guy, I'm guessing like a #4.

THANKS TO BEACON ET AL FOR RUNNING THE POLL!!:handclap::yo:

Talbot again.

Kershaw 08-18-2012 11:29 PM

Parlett.

I remember when some vocal fans last yr were saying that Parlett = MDZ.

EvilCorporateLawyer 08-19-2012 12:15 AM

Jean has to prove something at the pro level before I even consider him over a drafted prospect like Ceresnak who has gotten quite a bit better over the last year or so.

Just the way it should be with the vast majority of undrafted guys. FWIW, I don't even like having Hrivik where he is (though he's easily a better prospect than Jean).

Mats Zuccarelli 08-19-2012 01:09 AM

Geez, we really need some quality goalie depth. Haha

mrjimmyg89 08-19-2012 01:31 AM

Went with Talbot. Good AHL numbers and even though he is a bit older, showed something in pre-season last year that I liked. He's got a chance to play in the NHL somewhere.

Add Chad Kolarik.

I remember Parlett-Girardi comparisons, due to them both being undrafted.

I wouldn't give up on Parlett yet. I thought he looked pretty good last season, and didn't deserve to be sent to the ECHL. I'm hoping he has a strong season this year.

nyr2k2 08-19-2012 08:45 AM

In terms of who to add, my vote is Sam Klassen. He looked solid after his promotion to Hartford. I think he's worth an add.

Kolarik is too old, BTW.

Oh, you sillies. I think we can safely agree to add no one. Whoever wins this leaves us with 20 ranked and 5 unranked who can become "honorable mentions." At this point, I'm much more interested in folks' predictions of how this list will change between now and next time than I am in who they think our 26th ranked prospect is...

Outside of the obvious fact that Kreider and Hagelin will no longer qualify next time, I'm going to go out on a limb and say:
- Thomas and St. Croix will drop to the Third Tier.
- McColgan will drop to Projects & Suspects.
- Bourque will drop to Honorable Mention.
(hmmm... what do the four names above all have in common...?)
- Fogarty, Nieves, Hrivik and Andersson will all pass Lindberg.
- Ceresnak will jump to Third Tier.
- Some guy we don't currently know will make the Projects & Suspects grouping.

So the list will look something like:

TOP PROSPECTS

1. C J.T. Miller
2. D Dylan McIlrath
3. RW Jesper Fast
4. D Brady Skjei
5. C Andrew Yogan

SECOND TIER

6. C Steven Fogarty
7. C Cristoval Nieves
8. LW Marek Hrivik
9. D Calle Andersson
10. C Oscar Lindberg

THIRD TIER

11. RW Christian Thomas
12. D Samuel Noreau
13. RW Thomas Spelling
14. C Michael St. Croix
15. D Peter Ceresnak

PROJECTS & SUSPECTS

16. G Scott Stajcer
17. LW Kyle Jean
18. RW Shane McColgan
19. G Cameron Talbot
20. Player X

EvilCorporateLawyer 08-19-2012 01:07 PM

My main prediction is Fogarty being a huge riser. I don't see Thomas sliding all that much.

mrjimmyg89 08-19-2012 01:54 PM

Next time we pick rankings, it'll become something like this:

- Miller, Skjei, and McIlrath will be the top 3 and only top tier guys on the list
- Fast, Yogan, and of course Skjei will surpass Thomas on the list
- One of the goalies will make the jump to the third tier of prospects, possibly top 10
- Ryan Bourque fall past the Suspects list
- Biggest riser will be one of the goalies
- Biggest faller will be Hrivik

Another prediction: Bourque will stay roughly the same on the rankings due to the same guys who don't follow prospects continually voting on him for no reason other than his name and a few tournament games he played a while back.

I would agree with this. People will keep ranking him based on his solid performance in the last preseason because they won't get to see him in this preseason (which is almost certainly to be short enough for teams to get the regulars in shape and to test out rookies that have a real shot of making the team this season).

At least it's not as bad as people voting for Pashnin on par with second rounders for several years because he was the #1 overall pick in the KHL draft, which is essentially a waiver draft of prospects in that league.

Beacon 08-20-2012 06:02 PM

I don't want to do a tie-breaker for the final prospect. Please get a few of your friends to come into this thread to cast some votes. It's tied now. I'd like at least a 2-3 vote gap to call it.

Great projection. My list, IMO:

TOP PROSPECTS
1. C J.T. Miller
2. D Dylan McIlrath
3. RW Jesper Fast
4. D Brady Skjei
5. C Andrew Yogan

Exactly yes.

SECOND TIER
6. C Steven Fogarty
7. C Cristoval Nieves
8. LW Marek Hrivik
9. D Calle Andersson
10. C Oscar Lindberg

Fogarty to third tier, one from there, probably Noreau or Talbot, makes 2nd.

THIRD TIER
11. RW Christian Thomas
12. D Samuel Noreau
13. RW Thomas Spelling
14. C Michael St. Croix
15. D Peter Ceresnak

Fogarty here, somewhere. Thomas by now traded on premise he is minimum 4th liner w/speed + skill and must only overcome size.

PROJECTS & SUSPECTS
16. G Scott Stajcer
17. LW Kyle Jean
18. RW Shane McColgan
19. G Cameron Talbot
20. Player X and another -- perhaps Parlett and Pashnin here.
basically this, but talbot outplays Stacjer.
The rest of him needs to learn more, sure, but his glove hand is NHL ready now

vipernsx 08-22-2012 12:56 PM

Ceresnak should be on the list though so should Missiaen. I went with Ceresnak because he's better than some guys already on there.
