If the Canucks were in a winter classic...

Who'd our opponent be? I'd go with Buffalo (expansion cousins), Chicago (Major Rival) or Ottawa (Millionaires played the Sens for the cup).

aandbreatheme 08-21-2012 11:54 PM

I'm not sure, but it would be so much fun to watch. But we're never going to get that chance.

thrillhouse99 08-21-2012 11:57 PM

Calgary or Minnesota and it would probably be a heritage classic type deal.

VinnyC 08-22-2012 12:00 AM

Blackhawks, if it happened any time soon.

Otherwise, maybe the Flames or something like that.

ThereGoesVirtanen 08-22-2012 12:03 AM

I could see us going in Minnesota in a few years, especially after the massive signings.

Zombotron 08-22-2012 12:11 AM

Ottawa or bust. Buffalo second, and all for the reasons you've listed.

yes pls. The 100th anniversary of the 1915 Stanley Cup Final is approaching, too.

This would be sweet

Ottawa wouldn't be a big draw (from a advertising standpoint IMO). Canucks Leafs in Toronto because they are on the road this year vs DET.

Not sure if the Leafs would want it but that would be awesome. I'd fly there for sure.

Hollywood Burrows 08-22-2012 12:34 AM

Is anybody still impressed with this gimmick? I don't see why any real hockey fans would care about the winter classic.

Besides, the (usually) terrible conditions make the game much more treacherous than normal. I wouldn't want to see one of our guys get blindsided because his visor was covered in rain like Crosby.

keslerburrows 08-22-2012 12:37 AM

Hawks would be epic.

EDIT: I would only be excited because of HBO :D

Win One Before I Die 08-22-2012 12:45 AM

Canucks vs Bruins winter classic.

Our entire roster will be out with a concussion after that.

sully1410 08-22-2012 01:05 AM

Canucks vs New York Rangers

Same, the HBO episodes would be more entertaining than the game IMO.

Too soon or not soon enough (ie follow up season)

I'd go for Ottawa

Derp Kassian 08-22-2012 01:42 AM

Canucks aren't a winter classic team, only reason I'd want them is for 24/7.

Hammer79 08-22-2012 02:13 AM

From Vancouver's perspective; Chicago, LA, Boston, Toronto or Calgary.
From the other team's perspective; Minnesota, San Jose or Nashville.

JuniorNelson 08-22-2012 02:28 AM

You could do it in BC Place on artificial ice. It would be a good opportunity to justify the cost of the new roof. I think BC Place can be configured for 62,000.

Screw Battman, Canucks should just schedule a couple of games across the alley!

I propose to invite Detroit. They can trace thier history back to the Victoria Cougars, sort of. There was a league dispersal draft and a bunch of Cougars (who were playing out of New Westminister in Queen's Park!)were hired on by the new Detroit Franchise that played in Winsor, as was the custom at the time. LOL!

Actually a retro game against Detroit could be styled Millionaires versus Cougars. If it were played in Queen's Park it would have some legitimate historical merit. Kinda.

Im kind of over it to be honest. I thought it was cool the first couple of times but now i'm kind of meh on it. The ice is always horrible and it affects the game, i'd honestly rather watch them play in a normal arena where the ice is good. I bet its a cash cow for the league though.

On the other hand I really really really like 24/7, so thats a big plus.

Royal Canuck 08-22-2012 02:38 AM

Here's who I'd wanna see them face (in order)
-Chicago
-Boston
-Ottawa
-Calgary
-Toronto
-Winnipeg

stevecanuck16 08-22-2012 09:35 AM

Heritage Classic might happen, but I have a hard time believing Gillis would let HBO cameras in the room, so the Winter Classic is out. I would really want to see our version of 24/7, but it has proven a distraction in the past, so that's probably for the best.

maroon 6 08-22-2012 09:52 AM

Montreal, not too good of a team but they have the huge fan following and history to make it a good game for TV. Plus, they always play good against us.

Btw, I don't think Ottawa and Buffalo would make too much sense. The casual fan (most of the fans) does not know that the Sabres and Nucks are expansion cousins, nor would they know about something that happened around 100 years ago.

Wilch 08-22-2012 10:04 AM

Where would it even be held at? BC Place?

ddawg1950 08-22-2012 10:04 AM

I'd love to see them play on the Ottawa River.

And that would be awesome. Especially if we still have Lu.
