which two players?

If you could take any two players (one offensive and one defensive) from the Gainey era, who would you take?

Forward- Koivu

Defense man- Schneider.

(in their primes, obviously).

Habs 4 Life 08-22-2012 08:09 PM

Koivu and Souray

Kjell Dahlin 08-22-2012 08:15 PM

Plekanec
Markov

No longer with the team:

Ribeiro
Streit

Crimson Skorpion 08-22-2012 08:21 PM

Koivu
Streit

Mrb1p 08-22-2012 08:27 PM

Kovalev Komisarek

Prime obviously.

We'd get another first line winger and the big D we are looking for ATM.

We'd have to keep Komo far from Lucic though.

FlyingKostitsyn 08-22-2012 08:37 PM

Forward :

Prime Alex Kovalev (with our current situation at center he would be more useful than Koivu)

Defensemen :

Ryan McDonagh

ThaDevilGirl 08-22-2012 08:42 PM

Koivu is surely better than Gomez and Markov.

No Style Points 08-22-2012 08:44 PM

defense: Subban

Vi Nc E x13x 08-22-2012 09:00 PM

Forward: Kovalev - Most exciting player to watch and I had a man-crush on him forever

Defense: Schneider

I love Koivu as much as anyone, but a prime Gomez had something like 84 points one year? He was a better player.

I'd take Kovy & Theo. Picking just one player at forward is hard due to positions, but Theo was amazing.

Dont Poke Subban 08-22-2012 09:05 PM

Saku Koivu or Chris Higgins
Sheldon Souray or Hal Gill (seriously)

Adamcrazy3 08-22-2012 09:07 PM

Kostopoulos
Brisebois

Bobby G 08-22-2012 09:27 PM

Anyone not saying Koivu is an evil heartless leaf fan...

Mr Rogers 08-22-2012 09:57 PM

in their prime,

Forward: Kovalev (Unless Gilmour counts as a Gainey era player? I can't remember)
Defenseman: Markov (h.m. Subban and Schneider)

jwolf 08-22-2012 10:28 PM

Two players I would take back to add to our present roster:

SK and McDonagh

Kriss E 08-23-2012 05:50 AM

Natey is definitely going to say Brisebois here.

Mcd

D pairings would be

Mcd-Subban
Markov-Joshua Gorges
Emelin-Kaberle/diaz/weber/boullion

beowulf 08-23-2012 07:40 AM

Koivu and Streit

Captain Smurf 08-23-2012 07:48 AM

McD and The real number 11.

May I have the same with extra fries, please?

RaMMuT 08-23-2012 09:07 AM

Kovalev
Streit

niftymove 08-23-2012 10:09 AM

Koivu-Markov

From Gainey trades: Kovalev-gorges

Drafted during gainey era: Pax- PK

Pricef 08-23-2012 11:25 AM

I prefer going back to the Selke era and selecting Richard and Beliveau :)

MasterD 08-23-2012 11:59 AM

Must agree with most, Koivu in a heart beat. No, he was not the greatest player, but he gave his all, and his courage was transmitted to the rest of the team. Our current team plays like it has no leadership, even though it has some leaders.

On defense, I'd take Souray, even with his defensive flaws and injury-proneness. We need his character, physicality, huge cannon and fighting abilities. We just need to pair him with the right guy... Gorges type, ideally a bit faster on his skates.

HM to Higgins, who had lots of heart when he played here (before the Darkest Day in Habs History) and Streit, who could also help us.

Prime Koivu and Schneider were not drafted and developped in the Gainey era... Don't know why they would be deemed 'from the GAiney era', which implies he deserves some credit for their performances.

Offense: Kovalev in 2008

Defense: Josh Gorges
