According to truehockey.com writer Andy Strickland, Red Wings have made multi-year offer to Colaiacovo.

Quote:

Sources confirm talks have progressed between D-man Carlo Colaiacovo and the Detroit Red Wings. Word is hes received a multi-year offer from Detroit with the New York Rangers and the Carolina Hurricanes also expressing some level of interest. He turned down Nashville earlier this summer while the Calgary Flames have indicated they could be interested in if they move Jay Bouwmeester.

Carry on, there's nothing to see here.

WingedWheel1987 08-23-2012 11:26 AM

Meh.

I think this guy is a Blues blogger/chirper so he may know what he's talking about. If so I wouldn't mind CC. He's an injury risk but he's a quality d-man, something we are sorely lacking.

Winger98 08-23-2012 11:51 AM

don't mind the player, see no reason to go beyond a year, though. He's always injured, he isn't physical, he doesn't have size, he's lefthanded and he doesn't pk - while we have more than enough guys who can the powerplay.

Sign him for a year to fill out the top6, and see if he earns a longer contract. As it is, he doesn't look like he'd be the hardest part to replace, and there are guys like Roszival, Kubina, Jurcina, etc. who could come in and likely play similar ES minutes while also taking some PK time.

Heaton 08-23-2012 12:00 PM

I'm pretty sure this is the last type of defensemen the Wings need. It really doesn't address any needs whatsoever. So it'll be why I'm not surprised when he's signed to a 4 year deal.

Vladdy84 08-23-2012 12:05 PM

Meh... 2yrs 4M with no NTC. I would be fine with that I guess.

Kronwall-Big E
Quincey-White
Smith-CC
Kindl

Haha.
No need whatsoever for Carlo. Where does he fit? We've got 4 left-handed shooting puck moving defensemen as it is.

I'd rather just go with the six we have and sign or trade for a a defensive defenseman who can play the right side...

No...way.
What's the advantage of CC over Kindl? You want to pay him 4M?

Is everyone intent on overpaying mediocre defenseman?

4M over 2yrs... So 2M a year. And personally I'd rather play Kindl but I'm not the GM.

I'm assuming he means 2m per year. At least I hope that's what he meant.

I agree with Heaton and CB, no need for this guy. I'd rather roll the dice with Kindl as our 6th d-man than see CC signed.

Booyah! 08-23-2012 12:33 PM

The Eagles song "Desperado" comes to mind.

Need that savvy veteran experience for those late round playoff games. :sarcasm:

Yes, and queue up the "Holland is a genius" chorus that will come when they announce the signing.

JmanWingsFan 08-23-2012 12:39 PM

Do not need. Do not want. Seriously Holland. Stop it.

Kronwalled55 08-23-2012 12:44 PM

If desperation is really the game here, wouldn't Kubina/Jurcina be a better fit/option? We might as well give Kindl the #6 spot than sign Colaiacovo, and it pains me to say that.

Yes, since that has been the theme with every signing this offseason.

ashenhigh 08-23-2012 12:50 PM

Jesus, if Holland signs this guy I'm ranking this right up there with the return of Jason Williams in 2009.

Top 4 of:

Kronwall - Ericsson
Quincey - White

How far we've fallen since 2008.

Yeah because it's impossible for a left-handed D to learn how to play the other side, hockey defensemen are so one-dimensional :sarcasm:

garry1221 08-23-2012 01:25 PM

more of the same. do not want, do not need. but since Kenny hasn't done anything remotely smart this offseason, bring him on.

^this.

Big Poppa Puck 08-23-2012 01:45 PM

Meh, wouldn't mind it.

P U L L H A R D 08-23-2012 02:05 PM

Why are you guys saying he is offensive and a puck mover? The guy is a shut down D, albeit not a very good one.

Hmm, not sure about that. He doesn't play on the PK, but he does play on the PP. He's a two-way defensemen but used more in the offensive role.
