MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin issued a medical update Wednesday concerning the status of forward Rene Bourque.

Bourque successfully underwent surgery to repair an abdominal wall tear and will be sidelined for eight to 12 weeks. The surgery was performed earlier today in Montreal.

Rene Bourque suffered the injury during his off-season training in preparation for the 2012-13 season.

Well that means that one of Leblanc or Gallagher will play in the top 9 for sure now...

GordonGraham 08-29-2012 12:36 PM

8-12 weeks so he wont miss a game i guess

Et le But 08-29-2012 12:37 PM

The Habs offense is going to be laughably bad.

DAChampion 08-29-2012 12:38 PM

This means Scott Gomez is among the top 12 forwards rather than being the 13th forward.

Roulin 08-29-2012 12:40 PM

AK46? Sykora?

It's 2-3 months, so yes he will.

Watsatheo 08-29-2012 12:47 PM

Hope he heals and returns healthy but it isn't really much of a loss lineup wise. With the likelihood of a lockout he might not even miss any games.

FF de Mars 08-29-2012 12:52 PM

Galchenyuk ? Leblanc ?

Patty Roy 08-29-2012 12:53 PM

The odds just went up that Galchenyuk will get at least a 9 game stint if he impresses in camp.

Andros777 08-29-2012 12:56 PM

I'd like to see Gallagher get a chance before Galchenyuk. His time will come later.

Everyone was wrong about Borque, the guy obviously played his guts out for us.:)

Because Bourque played sooooo well when he was acquired. Its a blessing in disguise. Guess we will see what Leblanc or Gallagher can bring to the table

Great we can stop the Bourque + Budaj + 2nd proposals.. Damn! :(

JohnnyB11 08-29-2012 01:23 PM

Best time for it, as it seriously looks like hockey won't be geting started on time this season, if at all.

I think Bourque has been demonized enough. Deserved, to a degree, but not to the degree he gets it on this board.

Get well soon Rene, and I think you'll be back before the season begins.

FlyingKostitsyn 08-29-2012 01:23 PM

And so it begins!

Perhaps for once our injuries are going to be secondary players&scrubs.

They've gone full circle back to the begining of 2009-10 having only 5 forwards that can be relied upon for offense.

This has been Montreal's biggest problem since then. They have at the top of the lineup players that a good enough to succeed if they have equally good players on the ice with them. They get in trouble when they have to bring up depth players to plug holes in the roster.

Plekanec has been the king of this, looking at his plus minus with top six wingers compared to without is very sad.

On the other hand, I wasn't looking at Bourque to provide anymore than scoring a goal every 4 games while being carried by his linemates in the defensive and neutral zones. He's just a guy that can crash the net and take shots to me.

EDIT: To me this is a really good reason to do what they should have done already and brought A Kostitsyn back into the fold.

The only bad thing about this is a kid likely gets rushed. Simply put, there's no sign a kid is ready to assume a top 6 role. Maybe Palushaj since he's the most experienced of the bunch, but that's a stretch considering how he played in the NHL.

Bourque was a total disaster last year, a complete blackhole of suck, and this may get MT to reconsider his stupid plan of keeping the top line together.

It could also force MB to clear out some of the backend logjam in order to get a winger (which is something that probably needed to be done before this injury).

But I suspect there won't be NHL hockey being played during this absence anyway.

Darz 08-29-2012 01:43 PM

I'm wondering when this injury occured...maybe this had something to do with his sub-par performance last year. Looking for a silver lining.

Habs 08-29-2012 01:44 PM

I honestly forgot he was on the team.

Yup. He should be willing to sign for 1 year at this point. At the very least, if the team is completely healthy or out of contention by the deadline, AK can be moved for a pick to a contender with injuries. I don't see a downside.
