Pens re-sign Eric Tangradi, Alex Grant and Robert Bortuzzo on one year deals.

Tangradi, Bortuzzo and Grant deals all are two-ways. Tangradi would get $726,000 in NHL, while Bortuzzo and Grant would get $525,000

Add Strait to the list.

Shrimper 08-30-2012 10:09 AM

Glad that Tangradi has been re-signed. Not seen the others so can't comment.

wej20 08-30-2012 10:10 AM

All have to go through waivers right?

Milliardo 08-30-2012 10:12 AM

Very nice.

Hottubber 08-30-2012 10:15 AM

Was strait not resigned a couple months ago?

mpp9 08-30-2012 10:19 AM

With the lockout looking possible you have to give Tangradi a two-way deal I suppose. Would have been nice to get him near league minimum on a 2 year one way deal.

Rowdy Roddy Peeper 08-30-2012 10:21 AM

Good stuff. It was pretty much inevitable, but still nice to see.

bigd 08-30-2012 10:25 AM

If the cap is lowered to 58-60 mil all these guys will get their shot with the big club this season. The only one that will pass through waivers is Grant. He needs more time in the AHL. That whole year lost to a broken wrist set him back a little but he looked good last season.

Shady Machine 08-30-2012 10:26 AM

Good deals all around.

Realized first now that Strait has been signed for a while, he was just mentioned in the article, sorry :)

Someone explain the "waivers as related to 1- or 2-way deals" rule again, people are bound to ask.

Darth Vitale 08-30-2012 11:39 AM

Add Grant to the list. $525K, 2 way obviously.

they are completely unrelated. A 1-way deal always pays you the same money. A 2-way deal pays you different money depending what league you are playing in.

Here's a bit from Waivers 101.

Quote:

Depending on the age as determined above, a player is waiver eligible for a certain number of years from the year in which he signed his first contract.

...

The other factor is games played. Once a player reaches the threshold (again based on the age at which they signed their first professional contract), they are eligible for waivers. The language of the CBA is very clear that while there are two distinct thresholds, this is an "earliest of" scenario. If a player reaches their games played mark before the reach the years mark (or vice versa), they become eligible for waivers.

Basically its an age or years played thing similar to RFA and UFA status.

You explained it better than I would've. Some people assume 2-way means you can be sent down and skip waivers but not the case. Easy mistake to make. Quiz next Tuesday.

I blame EA Sports.

Antaris 08-30-2012 12:03 PM

Hot stuff. They all have something to prove this year, especially Tangradi.

And if the player is picked up off waivers by another team he must be on their NHL roster for, I believe, 30 days. If they try to send them back down after the 30 days then the original team has first options to pick them back up. Someone correct me if i'm wrong. If they get picked back up by the original team can that team then send them to the farm club? I believe this was the case when we picked Chris Bourque off waivers and Washington picked him back up. It's very unlikely that Strait, Tangrandi or Bortuzzo would make it through waivers unless they completely bombed in training camp. Grant should make it through with no problems.

Yes, if the original team re-claims the player, he can go to the AHL.

I think so. He won't be making any additions with the CBA talks leaning towards lowering the cap.
