Scott O'Neil has been a rising star in the business and made MSG a bundle of money. No word yet on why he's stepping down.

Word on the street is that Scott O'Neil couldn't work for James Dolan anymore. Shocking, no?
https://twitter.com/FisolaNYDN/statu...10853263728640

O'Neil is a basketball guy but he was really into the Rangers playoff run last spring. He came from the NBA offices. O'Neil is one of the Rangers alternate governors along with Sather.

The Garden announced the move

Quote:

MSG: "We are grateful for Scottís years of service and his many contributions to the company, and wish him the very best of luck..."

MSG statement indicates search will begin for O'Neil's successor.

Woa.

I wonder where he'll end up. Good business mind, I enjoy following him on Twitter.

Wasn't expecting this. Anyone have any guesses on who takes over?

It is unclear to why O'Neil, considering a rising star in the business, would abruptly step down after just three years as president. According to a source, O'Neil has been at odds with Garden Chairman James Dolan. Others insist that O'Neil has bigger aspirations than running the World's Most Famous Arena and could eventually be making a return to the NBA league office.

O'Neil played an active role with both the Knicks and Rangers and made a name for himself at MSG by securing corporate sponsorship deals with Chase, Anheuser-Busch, Coca-Cola and Delta Air Lines.

A basketball guy is always the Garden president. Checketts. Mills. O'Neil.

We complain about Slats but how many GMs can step in and deal with Dolan?

exactly. the job goes well beyond drafting and trading for good players. i think slats carries a lot of weight and does it pretty well.
also, it's pretty good for him that dolan doesn't know a puck from a canuck or a wakaluk.

The Dark Passenger 09-05-2012 03:37 PM

Does this have any impact on the Rangers?

RangerBoy 09-05-2012 04:12 PM

O'Neil made a lot of money for the Garden. It doesn't impact the day to day operations of the Rangers. When they talk about Rangers being a high revenue team and revenue sharing,O'Neil helped the Rangers and Garden bring in more revenue. The new MSG will continue to bring in more revenue. The NHL wants to put a clause in the CBA regarding new buildings. The players benefit so a share of the cost should come out of the players share. A small %. Dolan didn't spend $977M to lose money.

I heard he couldn't get along with Fuzzy.

OíNeil is calling his move a resignation, but according to sources, this could very well be Dolanís way of forcing out a personality the organization considers a potential leak ó an approachable businessman who does not instinctively fear and loathe the press.

I'd take the job, but I don't think they would look at my resume.

Signed,
Scott O'Neil

Just goes to show, having a crappy boss is miserable at any salary. Only difference is that the person making millions has a lot more options that the person making thousands.
