Do the Sharks have what it takes

Do the Sharks have what it takes to win the Stanley Cup? Yes, why? No, What do you think they are missing?

hockeyball 09-06-2012 02:38 PM

No, I think this has been discussed to death in other threads. No forward depth, lack of speedy forwards, etc...

I honestly, at this moment, don't have any hope of winning the cup this season.

VP and GM 09-06-2012 02:51 PM

At this time we are anywhere from a 4th to 10th seed out west.

We appear to be a team on decline and have not corrected the problems hockeyball has noted.

Bizz06 09-06-2012 02:57 PM

Yes. I feel an 8-peat, minimum, on the horizon.

CommanderShepard15 09-06-2012 02:58 PM

no.

we're missing an entire 3rd line.

Mafoofoo 09-06-2012 03:01 PM

Yeah. I'm feeling they'll go on a Montreal Dynasty era run. Easily.

I don't think we're missing an entire 3rd line.

SactoShork 09-06-2012 03:19 PM

Yes. But choke. The end.

sjshark91 09-06-2012 03:28 PM

Missing 1 thing.

A league to play in.

If and when this season starts, of course they have a chance. All teams have a chance. Its the ones that stay healthy, get on a roll at the right time and dont get bounced out by stupid stanchions that win.
The Sharks just got two new defense oriented coachs, the PK will be better then the previous sludge of two years. They could really use a new 3rd line center but no team is perfect, the grass is not greener.

BCShark 09-06-2012 07:17 PM

nope, a team cant win with two soft players like patty and thornton leading the team, i think its that simple

Ya, but what if Patty and Thornton got hard?

Vaasa 09-06-2012 07:38 PM

No, because of Doug Wilson.

ChubbChubby 09-06-2012 09:22 PM

It's not looking too good for this club.

Though I'd rather cheer for an underdog team rather than an underperforming one if I had the choice.

If they do win a cup while DW is GM I hope to see you there in the celebration thread giving the highest of digital fives to him. :)

It's rare that I actually LOL at a comment on these boards. Well played, sir.

Longtin l10l 09-06-2012 10:04 PM

Nope there's just too many other better teams

wtfisthis 09-06-2012 11:22 PM

No way, I would bet everything I have on the Sharks not winning a cup within the next few seasons. They're on the decline and will need to rebuild soon.

This is the prep talk Joe gave Patty to convince him to fight Bieksa.

I'll take that bet.

murdock1116 09-07-2012 12:38 AM

I don't think they have "what it takes"...I think of it like this, if the sharks win the cup who would be the guy to win the conn smythe?

I don't really see Thornton and Marleau as that guy. They have good playoff runs but not really dominant ppg playoffs.

As random as this may sound I think the only chance the sharks have to a cup is if Logan Couture takes a HUGE step forward this season and becomes a 40 goal scorer and ppg player.

murdock1116 09-07-2012 12:40 AM

And also what everyone else said about the 3rd line.
