Gudbranson injures shoulder, could be out 4 months

This sounds like really bad news...so disappointing cause I was thinking he was going to take the next step. Guess there may be a silver lining to the lockout with his injury:

The imminent owners lockout may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Panthers defenseman Erik Gudbranson, who sustained a "bad'' shoulder injury during an informal workout in Saveology.com Iceplex this week, according to sources close to the team.

The Panthers have yet to confirm the injury. If it's as serious as one source believes, it could keep Gudbranson sidelined for four months.

"Yeah, he did,'' said the source when asked if he sustained a serious shoulder injury. "I know it was a training accident there, so he's in a little bit of a recovery mode right now.''

Damnit! This could really put us in a big hole to start the season.

FlaPnthrsPunk 09-09-2012 10:18 AM

:shakehead Figures. Injuries are happening before the season even starts. Who knows if the season will start within four months anyway. Hope you have a speedy recovery Erik!

If he's back in four months he'll be back at the start of the season. ;)

Wow, this sucks. Hope it doesn't weaken his shoulder and cause more injuries with it later on in his career.

nhlfan9191 09-09-2012 11:27 AM

The lockout should give him a nice rest.

pb1300 09-09-2012 11:33 AM

Does anyone even care if the lockout last the whole season now? It would be nice if it didnt, just delay it enough so he doesnt have to be rushed.

harv3317 09-09-2012 04:47 PM

obviously i'm concerned about gubransen and hope it's not serious, or long lasting, but i still would like to see the season start on time, no matter how unlikely that is. i look forward to hockey and every team has injuries. worse case scenario is we get to see how our depth works out and they get more experience. take it from me, we're not making a cup run this season.

CHGoalie27 09-09-2012 10:00 PM

Goddammitanyway. That's horrible news, shoulder injuries are terrible. Speedy recovery for our future Norris candidate...

Luongo would fare well as a defenseman

p9ers 09-09-2012 11:28 PM

At least we have good depth.

Dang, sorry to hear about Gudbranson; I'm really excited to see him this upcoming season. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery.

AwesomePanthers 09-10-2012 11:40 AM

This sucks, but it looks like it will take a while before we'll see NHL hockey again.

Beezeral 09-10-2012 01:47 PM

Assuming the lockout is short, looks like we are starting the season with Ellerby in the lineup with strachan as the 7th D. Not to happy about this, was hoping we could make it a little while into the season without having to call up strachan because of his 1 way contract.

harv3317 09-10-2012 02:06 PM

anyone know how he got injured? did luongo hit him with his goalie stick?:nod:

By "short" you mean like 2 months, right? Cause the likelihood that the lockout is anything less than that is slim to none and slim left town last week. Hopefully we hear more about what happened with the exact injury and his time table.

I dont think anything is decided today about who's in the lineup. I think that'll be determined by training camp for sure. If Ellerby doesnt play well, Strachan could just as easily be in the lineup. Having Strachan on the roster isnt a bad thing whether he has a 1-way contract or not really. He played fairly well in his call up and deserves a chance to earn a roster spot IMO.

But my hope is that Jovo comes back in shape unlike last season and maybe he can still play at a higher level for one last season. If he does, that gives us plenty of options with the 6 d-man spots and we may not miss Gudbranson as much that way.

harv3317 09-10-2012 03:31 PM

would really like to know how he got injured.

Maybe Belfour and Pelts were back in town to show the young ones how it's done?

Clint 09-10-2012 07:55 PM

Gudbranson had shoulder surgery Thursday.

Ah, he's a strong young lad. Hopefully he'll recover in 6-8 weeks.
