The Edmonton Oil Kings host the Kootenay Ice tonight at 7:00PM MDT to kick off the 2012-13 regular season. I'm predicting a 5-2 Win for Edmonton.

Michael St.Croix with the first goal of the 2012-13 season, Brandon Baddock and Keegan Lowe also scored for the Oil Kings to make it 3-1 Oil Kings after 1 period of play.

Henrik Samuelsson makes it 4-2 Oil Kings on the Powerplay. St.Croix and Reinhart with the assists.

Montgomery scores to make it 4-3, close game.

4-3 Edmonton after 2 periods of play.

Cole Benson scores from a sharp angle to make it 5-3 Oil Kings

Edmonton takes the season opener 5-3 over the Kootenay Ice.

A real good game to go and see.

What a crazy force Colin Jacobs has been. I swear I never saw this explosion this early in the season.

Nicolas Petan and Oliver Bjorkstrand have really come up big for the winterhawks.

who are the favourites this year? other than the Oil Kings.

Portland (as usual), Calgary should be a top contender if Virtanen plays well, Kamloops should Top the Western Conference.

Red Deer looks to be a basement dweller this year.

They were pathetic today giving up fifty plus shots.

Just a cheap, dirty team, devoid of skill and talent.

Save for Dumba I suppose. Everyone else is second rate or a hack.

Saw Brent Sutter at the game today.

I imagine he isnt too pleased.

They have lost too many key parts. Seth Jones is good, but he isn't gonna replace everything they lost.

I predict Portland will only do well because of their weak division.

Too many key parts? The team is so stacked that losing Bartschi hurts, but have players to take over his scoring like Petan and De Leo. They will challenge for the Cup.

Mayor of Wrongville wrong. Sorry but just too many questions and unproven players. Rattie already suspended, he'll show his frustrations more and more this year.

- I would understand if Portland downgraded a bit from last year. But so many role guys from last year's squad have stepped up big time and produced, the additions of Bjorkstrand and Jones (who imo are both potential 1st rounders in a VERY deep draft this year.)

Give it 3weeks, then we'll talk.

It's already been pointed out, Portland WILL be a top condender, no two ways about it.

I don't see it man. Srsly The only way they are top 2 team is because their division is so weak.

Bartschi, Ross, Gabriel, Noebels, Carruth, Morrow and more im sure.

The players who are replacing these players are what you may ask.

They are unproven to play at the skill level of the aforementioned players. Until they are proven you cannot guarantee anything.

Again, the Weak US division will help them tremendously.

Phillips I will buy you a beer if Portland doesn't make the Conference Finals.

Also Tri-City is the team that looks like it's suffering from their graduates.

Also I think you're underrating the US division, yes it seems like it is at the weakest in a very long time, but Seattle looks like they improved, Spokane looks very decent, and the only question marks is how good Tri-City will be and if Everett will show any signs of improvement (Losing Simpson really hurts, but they do have Murray).

I'll remember that! Honestly I am just excited about having this forum to talk about CHL. With no NHL hopefully we'll have lots of activity.

Could someone fill me in on what's going on with Dylan Wruck in Edmonton? Is he hurt? I noticed he hasn't played their first few games.

Injured, something to do with a lower body injury, but I cant recall exactly what it was, it was pretty severe though.
