Eminger is a solid fill in guy. Has to be a cheap contract too so no complaints here.

Terms? I guess that they know what they have here, probably signed for pretty cheap...

I would guess 1 year in the 600K-700K range. Actually looking at his previous contracts I could see up to 800K too but definitely no more than that.

I like Eminger so I'm more than fine with this. Without Sauer the Rangers have 6 D (including MDZ) and Bickel isn't an everyday player so I'd imagine him and Eminger split time. At some point down the line I'm sure they'll look to grab another dman to solidify the bottom pairing with Stralman. For now though this will work fine.

RangerBoy 09-10-2012 02:30 PM

Eminger was skating at the Flyers facility with some of the Flyers players during the summer.

Eminger never recovered from hurting his shoulder in December. He wasn't right when he came back.

Ave Maria 09-10-2012 02:30 PM

I am guessing 1-2 years, 800 per?

silverfish 09-10-2012 02:33 PM

Should be a good battle between him and Bickel for the 6th spot coming up this year. I'd have liked to see a guy like Rozy or Colaiacovo brought in, could still happen, but at least they're addressing the D-depth.

Welcome back Eminger!

Muh 09-10-2012 02:33 PM

We know it will be cheap, not a bad signing to step in as a 6 when need be.

I would assume it would be a 1 year deal.

nyr2k2 09-10-2012 02:34 PM

Good, I always thought Eminger was fine as a #6. I think he's a better defensive player than Bickel. Plus, competition is never a bad thing.

Sauer is not coming back this year, I'd bet.

CH2 09-10-2012 02:38 PM

There were a few games early in the season where Eminger played very well. Hopefully he can bring a little of that to the bottom pairing this year.

NYRFAN218 09-10-2012 02:45 PM

Larry Brooks ‏@NYP_Brooksie
Eminger in at $750,000 for one year with NYR....before escrow, that is.....

Kershaw 09-10-2012 02:46 PM

Bickel won't be regular.

NYR Viper 09-10-2012 02:46 PM

Very good signing. He is capable of being a solid bottom-pairing guy and her knows the system and fits in well in the locker room.

Last chance to get in a long term front-loaded deal before the CBA expires....

good one!

Eminger can do one thing Bickel can't and that's skate. Now the question is will either guy be good enough in Torts' mind to play playoff mins.

I'd like to think both guys are 6b and 6c and they add a playoff dependable 6a at any point before the deadline.

Baby Punisher 09-10-2012 02:57 PM

Best move we could have made right now. I still think we need another vet d-man for depth.

You play Eminger against the faster teams and Bickel against the more physical teams.

When you play a fast and physical team, you play your top 4 for 30 min each :)

I agree, but I can't think of one thing Bickel is good at, let along anything that's better than Eminger.

Fitzy 09-10-2012 03:02 PM

This guy at one point was filling in top 4 RD spot O.K. for us. Neither he nor Stralman are ideal in that spot but e can hope that wile one is off the other is on. Eminger brings a mix of physical play, experience, and versatility. Hard to argue with the move.

Barnaby 09-10-2012 03:05 PM

I like Eminger, but I still think that a need exists for a more experienced/reliable veteran on the back line. You have to believe your top 4 aren't all playing 82 games.

I'm still hoping for something like this:

McDonough - Girardi
Staal - Del Zotto
Stralman - Rozy (or other vet d-man)

I'm not sure if they consider themselves done at D yet... they could carry Bickel as an extra defenseman/emergency forward. Eminger as an extra defenseman.

A guy like Haley has a 2-way deal for the first year of his contract, so you could send him down and use Bickel as the emergency forward. Haley or someone else could always be brought up if there is a long term injury.

GWOW 09-10-2012 03:07 PM

It's a sorry state of affairs when you have no desire to play a guy in a triple-OT game and your top-4 has played over a combined 120 mins.

You cant sugarcoat how bad Bickel was last season. OK, he was rookie. Still, if the coach thinks he stinks and is a liability, then I'm all for finding alternatives.

Eminger is a start. Not a great one, but it's a start.

Rangers79 09-10-2012 03:07 PM

1 year for cheap? Good 8th defenseman, knows the system, knows the players. Nothing wrong with that.
