St. John's IceCaps 2012-13

Thought I'd start this now, with the NHL looking to be shut down this might be our only Jets type hockey.

Here's the current roster signed to St. John's

G Tyler Plante (Try-Out)
D Dean Arsene
D Jake Marto
D Travis Ramsey
C John Albert
RW Norm Ezekiel
LW Jason Jaffray
LW Ray Kaunisto
RW Jason King
RW Raymond Sawada
FWD Ryan Schnell
FWD Joey Sides
LW Hunter Tremblay
LW Kevin Clark
LW Derek Whitmore
C Brian Sutherby

Winnipeg Jets able to be re-assigned without having to clear waivers
G Edward Pasquale
G Chris Carrozzi
D Julian Melchiori
D Ben Chiarot
D Cody Sol
D Zach Redmond
D Will O'Neill
LW Ivan Telegin
C Alexander Burmistrov
LW Carl Klingberg
C Eric O'Dell
C Patrice Cormier
RW Jason Gregoire

Winnipeg Jets players that would have to be on waivers by today to be eligible for St. John's (and somewhat realistic)
G Mark Dekanich
G Al Montoya
D Paul Postma
D Grant Clitsome
D Derek Meech
C Maxime Macenauer
RW Spencer Machacek
C Ben Maxwell
C Aaron Gagnon

Sounds like there are 0 Jets on waivers today, meaning the players off that last list will not be able to go to St. John's. I guess the Jets did not want to risk any of them, and I don't blame them. All could probably contribute as a depth player (thus a real danger to lose on waivers), with the exception of Gagnon, and if they can avoid paying him 550K to play in the minors, I am guessing that's what they will do (by keeping him up and locked out).

Ray Kaunisto was a nice signing for St. John's, good role player at the AHL level. Good speed, hard worker, contribute a little at both ends.

My guess for a lockout roster...(Burmistrov to Russia)

Klingberg - Telegin - King
Jaffray - O'Dell - Sawada
Whitmore - Cormier - Clark
Tremblay - Albert - Kaunisto
Gregoire

O'Neill - Redmond
Arsene - Ramsey
Sol - Melchiori
Chiarot

Pasquale
Plante

Sigh, suddenly I'm interested in the AHL. It took having the AHL leave, and the NHL returning only to leave again for me to take an avid interest in this league.

I suppose it would have been easier initially if i could find it in me to like Vancouver (i tried, i really did) but alas...i hope we are able to get a steady stream of ...streams.. for these games.

Someone better bite the bullet and pay those expensive AHL webcasts prices.

KingSalamon 09-14-2012 01:10 PM

What is the deadline for the players to be assigned to waivers today? I saw that huge list but perhaps there's more to come?

I don't know myself but the one thing I do know is this thread will be one I follow for the forseeable future. Go Caps!

Forgot Travis Ramsey and Kevin Clark(both are on two year AHL deals).

Derek Whitmore was signed to a 25 game PTO.

http://www.thetelegram.com/Sports/20...-to-St-Johns/1 forgot Spencer.

Yeah, deadline was today. Last time they had a special exemption to allow players to head to AHL, but I doubt that happens this time from what I am hearing. Sounds like if you're waiver eligible and not cleared waivers by today you are stuck locked out.

i believe machacek would have to go through waivers would he not?

Would also like to warn that the author of the article is misinformed as they definitely make it sound like the two way deal effects his waiver status, which it does not.

Damn I knew I forgot somebody.

eliteprospects (which is usually unreal with contracts) does not have either one listed, which is why I forgot. I'll add them.

Also, that author has zero clue how NHL works. He makes it sounds like two-way/one-way guarantees an NHL spot/effects waiver status. Machacek will not be in St. John's since he is not on waivers by today.

Holden Caulfield 09-14-2012 01:40 PM

I have now heard that players who were on AHL Clear Day Rosters last year and are signed to two-way deals (Machacek/Macenauer/Maxwell/Dekanich/Meech) might be eligible to sign a AHL deal the second the lockout goes into effect, thereby avoiding these waivers. So what do I know. But if those players end up in St. John's, it's going to be stupidly crowded down there

Imagine (if Burmistrov stays as well)

Telegin - Burmistrov - Machacek
Klingberg - Maxwell - King
Cormier - Macenauer - Sawada
Jaffray - O'Dell - Tremblay
Albert - Clark

Meech - Redmond
O'Neill - Ramsey
Arsene - Melchiori
Sol

Dekanich
Pasquale

What a stacked roster...

Guardian17 09-14-2012 02:31 PM

Looking forward to following the IceCaps this season.

Grind 09-14-2012 02:57 PM

Definitly agree HC.

COlumbus is looking at a pretty badass set up for their young guys

calvert, johanson, atkinson
erixon, savard

pretty much all their top young guys could be playing together down there, it would do wonders for that team.

KingJet* 09-14-2012 03:56 PM

I don't think we'll win the Calder Cup this year... but playoffs, probably, OKC will win the Calder Cup IMO

Wonder how Postma feels about that 1way contract now?

does Cormier have to clear waivers ?

The original post says no.

YWGinYYZ 09-14-2012 05:56 PM

Telegin and Burmi (and Machacek) would be a fun line to watch. The coaches down there won't put up with any guff - if Burmi goes down, I hope he uses this time wisely to figure out his game.

If the lock-out happens, I think I'll consider subscribing to the AHL network.

DespoticNewt 09-14-2012 06:15 PM

Go IceCaps! I'll be watching hockey, in one form or another, this fall. **** the NHL right now. :)

Canadienjet 09-14-2012 08:03 PM

No reason to think we won't win the division again.

Everyone got money on Syracuse,Toronto or OKC winning it all don't mind flying under the radar.

Hope Whitmore can hang around longer the 25 games( if that).Throw him with the group Holden posted above and we will be a tough team to beat.

Drinking the kool-aid a little but I think we maybe have one of the best bottom 6 lines in the league.

Tandem of Dex and Eddie will be great

Looks very likely to be the roster...
Although, you have to take in mind many other teams will have the same situation. From most of the HF accounts we technically only improve by Burmistrov and one of Machacek and Cormier. Other teams have even more...

EDIT: just noticed now Machacek wasn't mentioned about going down to the AHL... plus a few others...

Machacek and the others that were subject to waivers were not re-assigned. I have heard players on two-way contracts that were on a 2011-2012 AHL clear day roster will be eligible to be signed to an AHL contract once the NHL has formally been locked out (midnight last night).
