NHL Lockout Bad For Habs Young Dmen?

Do you think the nhl lockout will be bad for tinordi beaulieu and ellis as it will be basiclly like playing in the nhl against players like nugent hopkins hall skinner etc do you think it could be good or bad for there development? your thoughts.

Agreed. If anything, it will get them to the NHL faster and will help further develop their defensive game, espescially Beaulieu.

It'll definitely be better! It'll be tougher than it usually is but still not as tough as the NHL so it'll be a good transition when they make the big league.

Oh, that's what "jacked" means? I thought it was something completely different :sarcasm:

I think it's gonna be better as most of the on-ice situations will be at the same level as the AHL was last season but now they will also be put in situations against better opposition. It's just better for their developpement.

Actually the 2004-2005 lockout turned out to be great for player development. Young players like Spezza, Staal, Horton, Hemsky, Bergeron, etc had a huge jump from 2004 to 2005. You're talking about 30 pts season to 100pts for Staal... The higher competition in the AHL can only be good for the prospects.

beowulf 09-18-2012 06:57 AM

As with others here, I feel this will benefit them. Simply you get better playing better players not by playing against weaker opponents.

Freaky Habs Fan 09-18-2012 08:29 AM

Madevilz, you are totally right. Too bad we don't really have a prospect in that situation. There's LeBlanc, but chances are he would have started in the AHL anyway.

Yeah too bad we don't have a prospect in that mold.
Id send Eller though, he's definitely a player that could benefit from playing in the first line and get tons of minutes. But I think we could lose him to waiver?

Developing in a talent-inflated AHL good. Fire bad.

It should be good for them to face a higher level of competition then they would under normal conditions.

Sucks for NHLers, not for AHL guys that need more seasoning...lock out puts them closer to "the show".

NewHabsEra* 09-18-2012 04:08 PM

It will be better for our young guys no doubt..

Perhaps, but you can't prove that they wouldn't have had the same production, or even a better one, if there wasn't a lockout.

Take Staal, he never reached 100pts again, not even close. His great season seems more like an anomaly.

Basically, there's no way of knowing. The only guys who we can say benefit for sure are the ones that actually should be there.
