OHL Arena Guide

What happened to ohlarenaguide.com? It appears that the site is no more.

I did a whois on the domain and noticed that it expired earlier this month (Sept 8th).

I know the webmaster was getting bored with it, but the stories, information and photography on there were excellent. It would be a shame to lose this great site and not have it archived on the Internet.

Maybe the webmaster didn't notice that the domain expired? Hey Kevin, if you are reading this forum, please re-new your domain, we miss your site! :)

That's unfortunate. I really enjoyed that site. Especially reading about and seeing pictures of the old arenas. You could also see what the WHL and QMJHL arenas were like. It was very informative. I hope it is restored.

Just noticed that today as well. Very very unfortunate if the site is down for good.

StadiumJourney.com has writeups for about 3/4ths of the OHL teams.

if the domain name was left to expire then it is automatically picked up by an organization that I can't remember to name off the top of my head, and it will cost a lot more to get it back. So if it's at this stage you can consider it gone.

On the topic of rinks, anybody have any clue why Sarnia doesn't want people taking pictures of the arena?

I went there last year and was there pretty early so me and my brother were just looking around. When I broke out my phone to take some pictures I had a security guy on me telling me I couldn't take any pictures.

Of course I did take pics, I just got more discrete about it.

What could possibly be the reason for them not wanting pictures taken inside the arena?

Also, I am thinking of putting together a website (though it would probably just be a blog or a tumblr) with pics and descriptions of OHL arenas. I plan on hitting quite a few this winter and could probably get the whole league in two or three years.

I can't speak for Sarnia (there are a few barns that really have an issue about taking pictures), but most of the time it depends on what kind of camera you're using.

I made my first trip to Sarnia 4 years ago fully expecting them to yell at me about taking pictures but the usher had zero problems with it, I've been to Sarnia twice and taken a bunch of pictures both times no problem.

Erie was also high on the no camera policy but when I was last there in February that seemed to disappear as well as I took a ton of pictures.

I dont have an SLR but I have a pretty decent digital camera and I have now taken pictures at all the rinks without any troubles.

I just messed up renewing the domain name. Glad to see I'd be missed if I ever kicked the bucket for reals.

I am doing the rounds of alot of OHL rinks and have a few pics I could send your way. Granted it isn't a big list yet (Sarnia, Belleville and London), but me and my brother plan on getting to as many OHL rinks over the next couple years as we can.

Love your site btw and would be happy to contribute some pics.

edit: also, I think I was probably accosted by the same usher as you about taking pics. I was using my cell phone camera before the game had even started and was told I wasn't allowed to take pictures. Seemed pretty ridiculous. And it is the only arena I have had that trouble in.
