What's your Number?

As much as I'd love to discuss Burke again, I wanted to take a different approach during this lockout. Since I'm sure many of us have played one sport or another during our lives, I was wondering what your number was and why? Is there a story behind it?

I was a man of two numbers. I was number 26 until junior C. My birthday is May 26. In Jr C, my coach told me that goalies can't wear 26, so I switched to 60, which is my high school football number. I don't think he had the energy to fight me on it. I also wore 00 in baseball telling my teammates that was the number of times I struck out per season.

Ironically, my two sons now wear numbers 2 and 6. They were just given those numbers.

Sorry, was bored of the normal rhetoric on here and thought this could be fun.

#13 Mats Sundin!

SeenSchenn2 09-19-2012 07:05 AM

12 or 91 -- Birth year.

12, cause Simon Gagne wears it.

Number 7 and 13.

7 was my Dad's favourite number and it use to be mine so yeah.

13 was for Sundin :)

When I was little, #22 for Mike Bossy. As a teen, and ever since, #17 for Wendel.

Same numbers, different reasons

#22 for My day of birth

#17 because my dad wore it

61 -- since i was about 10 or 11...

I only got to wear it for one season b/c they sent our team two #6 and we already had #16 so I said I'll take #61. I loved that I had such a high number and at the time, I couldn't think of anyone in the pros that had the number.

I never wore it again for hockey until men's league when I could pick my number.

#59 my whole life, dads birth year and he recently passed away so I'll continue wearing it. The one year back in peewee our coach wanted us to have lower numbers so I took #19.

I like the number 20

Gilmour's 93 was awesome.

Hugh Janus* 09-19-2012 08:08 AM

I used to wear #69. Coach asked me for my favourite number and I told him.

Anthrax442 09-19-2012 08:12 AM

11 or 77

Leafsdude7 09-19-2012 08:12 AM

Armstrong is my last name, so I wear 10.

Wore 5 when I played house league sports as a kid, just because that was the number I kept being given.

9 when I was a forward, I have a very oddball theory on it :p:

When I was on D I was always #2, Leetch :yo:

Its a "special" number. In school it was always pushed in my head that 3 was a "magic" number, for whatever reason. 3x3 is 9. 9+9 is 18, and the two digits add up to 9. 9x9 is 81, and the digits again add up to 9. Multiplying any number from 1-10 by 9, the digits always add up to 9.

Patty Lee 09-19-2012 09:08 AM

6 all through minor/junior hockey

7 now that I'm an adult. no reason for either really. it's just a number

Nice.

I wish I could remember them all...

I was always a defenseman in hockey. I always used to try to get 11 when then coaches were handing numbers out. A couple years I got stuck as either 5 or 6. For soccer, again, I can't really remember. But I remember I wore 4 one of my last years of playing house league. I wore 32 when I played for Erin Mills, and then 17 the following year.

Rob Brown 09-19-2012 10:01 AM

Over my minor hockey career, I used 12, 88, 9, 67 and 28. Some for multiple seasons, some for just one (88 and 67, only ones left). When I signed with my rep teams, I always chose 9 which was my favourite number, so that was always exciting. I play defense now, so if I was to pick a new number it'd probably be 22.

Joe Pesci 09-19-2012 10:05 AM

#4, #8, #12, #13, #14.

Those are all the ones I remember wearing. I identify most with #4 and #14.

Eyedea 09-19-2012 10:24 AM

I wore #7 in soccer. I was always a big fan of Zagorakis even though he played for such ****** teams. :P

That number basically translated into all sports I played.
