Could Bob Nicholson become the next President of the IIHF?

Would be interesting if this actually happened and how a Canadian President would change the IIHF.

While the NHL and its players fight over how they should divide a $3.2 billion pie, there are some interesting machinations playing out on the international hockey level that could see hockey get a powerful voice on the International Olympic Committee and Hockey Canada president and CEO Bob Nicholson taking the top job at the International Ice Hockey Federation.

Maybe we get get some proper slack called for us here and there instead of Zurich via Moscow calling in all the shots here.

Ironically, from 1954-1975 the IIHF was headed under a 2 Americans, a Canadian and a Brit. :teach2:

President of Finnish hockey federation Kalervo Kummola looks to be the frontrunner for the spot at this point.

I think not. There really hasn't been any talk in these parts about it lately. Besides, he's getting pretty old. Even Fasel is younger.

He is, though, going to play a major role in picking the next president. And being one of those shrewd euro cabinet players who currently hold the federation in their grasp, it seems unlikely he'll want to see someone up there who might tip the balance of power or isn't easy to influence. If he sees Nicholson as someone who doesn't fit that bill, he may not be as natural choice as that article indicates.
