Endeavour: Who saw it?

Something positive to combat the lockout gloom.

It flew right over the high school I teach at in Santa Ana. Man it was LOW. Still awed by the size of that thing and everywhere it's been.

Thank god I had a prep period at that time, I woulda just ran outside :D

I hear a jet right now... I'm in Long Beach. Saw a bunch of people out on the Bluff waiting for it. Not really intersted to be honest.. maybe I should be?

I'm a huge space enthusiast but I don't get what all the fuss is about over this?

Kings man 4 life 09-21-2012 03:37 PM

The fact that its possibly the last time its going to fly in anyway shape or form.

Buddy The Elf 09-21-2012 03:46 PM

I remember when I was real young in the 80's my Dad packed us all up in the car to go to Edwards airforce base to watch the shuttle land only to have the trip scrapped last minute because the shuttle landed in Texas (I think) instead.

That ****ing thing **** on me as it flew over and now I gotta work the rest of the day with Space Shuttle poop on my shirt

I think it's more about the novelty of a jumbo jet with a shuttle on it flying really, really low all over LA. It was flying at the height of the tall buildings downtown.

FrozenKing18 09-21-2012 05:27 PM

Yea, we went outside 4th period to see it.

Telos 09-21-2012 05:29 PM

That and it is likely the last time you'll see it in the sky, which has meaning to those in California, given many of us can remember the seeing it in the sky at its infancy.

kingsholygrail 09-21-2012 06:22 PM

I didn't know when it was coming, so I didn't know when to look, but it may explain why the traffic on the 101 near the 405 went to sudden **** a few times there.

I saw on 3 separate passes near LAX, standing in front of my office building - pretty cool

123slam 09-21-2012 07:49 PM

Snapped it from the roof of my house in Berkeley..

I saw it for about 5 seconds when I was on the bus back home. That thing was huge and low.

Thirty five years ago I was a 10 year old kid whose pop took him to Edwards AFB to watch the very first shuttle flight and landing - Enterprise's first free flight off the back of a 747 and landing under astronaut control. It was pretty cool.

Today I closed that chapter, with my 7 year old little girl, by watching the very last flight of a shuttle, over my office in Santa Ana. It too was pretty damn cool.

For me THAT's what all the fuss is about.

After today, you will never see one of these in flight again. Ever.

Some pretty cool photos of today's flight:
