Replacement Players - Why not?

I don't care who plays for the Habs, I'll cheer for them. If the NHLPA wants to scab jobs overseas then the NHL owners should get replacement players. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

If players want to cross the line and come back and play for their NHL team, pay them their salary.

The NHLPA may say then the NHL is trying to break the union with replacement players BUT the players threatened first to go overseas and are now going risking injury and some contracts that won't let them return when the lockout ends.

Both Countries need NHL hockey to be played for the non player JOBS it creates.

Let's hope the owners create 700 new jobs with replacement players and let's embrace them.

It would put the NHL in the strange position of being maybe the 5th best league in the world, as far as quality of play?

I guess the reffing would still be top notch. :snide:

uiCk 09-23-2012 08:08 PM

i would embrace, but i doubt many people will. Season ticket holders won't want to pay for bunch of scrubs playing hockey, and i doubt you could fill more then 1000-2000 seats with random players, and would probably result in more losses then if there is a lock out for real.

old scotia 09-23-2012 08:14 PM

All great points. But if for some way they could do it and make a small profit and get people working, I say do it.

rafal majka 09-23-2012 08:22 PM

I believe that both BC and Quebec have anti-scab laws on the books. Also, since the NHL owners locked out the players, the NHLPA could appeal to the LRB in each jurisdiction for the NHL to be sanctioned.

if you craze hockey and live in montreal, might as well go see the MTL junior play in Verdun. i don't follow them, and i imagine they still suck, but you can always choose games to watch where the opposing team is good, with some up and coming dudes

pine* 09-23-2012 08:27 PM

They are now playing in Boisbriand :sarcasm:

As for the topic, I wouldn't pay to go see them but I would probably watch. Any level of hockey is still better then Occupation Double

poetryinmotion 09-23-2012 08:43 PM

Replacement players will never work, it's not the same as cheering for your real team. And why would we need replacement players anyway, is the NHL the only hockey league in the world? Watch juniors, AHL, KHL, etc... plenty of hockey still.

Ah shat... that's too far now...

The Gal Pals 09-23-2012 09:20 PM

If they want to bring scab players then the league better decrease it's ridiculous ticket prices by a lot in order to reflect the drop in quality of play.

Fozz 09-23-2012 09:25 PM

Not interested.

One Man Rock Band 09-23-2012 09:47 PM

Would I watch? Hells yeah.

Would it ever happen? Hells no.

The owners would end up giving the NHLPA 60% just to come back with how much money they'd be losing.

pine* 09-23-2012 09:54 PM

Not interested. Might as well just go watch LNAH.

29dryden29 09-23-2012 09:55 PM

No thanks not even worth my time to drive to a game I can watch the AHL or OHL and see hockey just as good as a bunch of replacements for far less money. You know damn well the owners wouldn't drop ticket prices.

Habaddict 09-23-2012 10:52 PM

Aren't replacement players ( scabs in other words ) what you use
if the players are on strike. They're not.
I'd be very surprised if it is legal to lock out the current players, and
hire replacements. Not just in Quebec, but anywhere in the developed world.

beowulf 09-24-2012 07:50 AM

Don't see it happening in the NHL, especially due to the scab laws that exist in certain parts of Canada.

BLASPHEMOUS 09-24-2012 08:27 AM

1. Can't use replacement players in a lockout, only a strike.
2. I believe these calls for using replacement players will die down quickly when the product suffers in quality.
3. Will they keep ridiculously high ticket prices despite this drop in quality? Most likely. Probably a 10% drop off because the owners "care."

Habs 4 Life 09-24-2012 09:10 AM

Watching the NFL and the way these replacement refs have been brutal, I can only imagine how bad hockey would be. No Thanks

Madevilz 09-24-2012 09:14 AM

Just follow the Bulldogs then lol
at least the AHL has plenty of talent this year.

shutehinside 09-24-2012 09:36 AM

Better off watching the ahl. It would likely be those players coming up IF any of them would in the first place. Besides, can't imagine anyone paying NHL money to watch an AHL or worse, product.

Beaker 09-24-2012 02:59 PM

I'm down to watch some replacements!

googlymoogly 09-24-2012 09:33 PM

So Laraque comes back and scores 50 goals since the rest of the players are crap.

I'm up for it. Imagine those southern teams that can barely get 1/2 an arena full of players that are NHL caliber.

Bullsmith 09-24-2012 09:53 PM

So you're ready to pay 10K a year for a pair of primo tickets to watch the Bulldogs play in Habs uniforms? Why not just pocket the 10K, buy 'Dogs season tickets and squint?
