Wasn't he in the Alex Kovalev trade?

Isn't he the ex Penguins player? I think he was selected by the Penguins at the draft but with a Habs pick that was traded to them

vokiel 09-26-2012 02:33 PM

This guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michel_Ouellet ?

Makes sense with Therrien as the habs coach ;)

I think he even played on a line with Armstrong in Pittsburgh, so yup make sense

Interesting list of invitees, seems bigger then usual. Hope to see them have some extra ECHL depth this year.

Habitants 09-26-2012 03:05 PM

a lot of invites! good to see that they are giving some players a chance.

They already have a lot of depth at the forward position. (14 players on two-way + 5 on AHL contract). Among those 19 players, I think that Leveille, Chaput and hopefully Berger and Lefevbre will play in Wheeling. Maybe they'll also send Holland to the WHL for his overager season.

The players with the best chance to make the team are Michel Ouellet and Cody Wild.

As mentioned above, Therrien has coached Ouellet for many years. They, along with Colby Armstrong, were basically promoted from Wilkes-Barres to Pittsburgh at the same time.

I believe that the Dogs badly need a veteran top 6 forward and I think that Ouellet could fill that role.

As for Cody Wild, well the Dogs only have 7 dmen under contract and they need more depth. Wild is by far the most interesting name among the dmen invited. He would probably fill the role that TJ Fast had last year.

I would like to see the organisation offer Brendan Ranford a AHL contract but he would likely play the whole year in the ECHL.

The rest of the list isn't really exciting.

-Owuya has intriguing size but his stats in the WHL and ECHL are awful.

-I expect Macaulay, Gagné and Corbin to be returned to their junior teams

-Kyle Rank seems like a decent AHL player but he hasn't played in nearly two years.

-Bennett and Farnham ; this looks like ECHL material to me.

-It seems like the organisation likes Reichard. He has good stats in the NCAA and he was at the Habs' camp last summer. Maybe he'll get his chance with the Dogs one day, however he is already 25.

-Torquato and Darling are both signed by Wheeling for next season. I guess the Habs wanted to show that they care about their ECHL affiliate. :)

What happened with Phil DeSimone ?

I think Dogs do that pretty much every year, kind of like the Habs that get the AHL contracts to the NHL camp (even when it was veteran players signed by Dogs owner)

Clumsyhab 09-26-2012 05:07 PM

Michel Ouellet will be Therrien's Mathieu Darche.

Therrien will be coaching the Bulldogs, too? Blast.

Any relation between Sebastian Owuya and leafs goalie prospect Mark Owuya?: nevermind, found it on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebastian_Owuya

Sebastian's brother Mark is a goaltender in the Toronto Maple Leafs organisation.

Nattinen - LeBlanc - Palushaj'A'
Geoffrion - Chaput - Gallagher
Ouellet - Dumont'A' - Holland
Avtsin - Bournival - Blunden

St-Denis'C' - Ellis
Tinordi - Beaulieu
Stejskal - Nash

Whitesnake 09-26-2012 07:09 PM

Geez....I didn't even noticed DeSimone was gone....that's a bad move in my opinion. Loved the kid, one of the most interesting players to have been invited by us in quite a while...

As far as the new list of invitees, a big one which is great to see...

Some guys you wonder why the heck are they invited....others it's fun to see 'cause they are intriguing names.

Stortini ? Blunden ? They will be in the starting line-up for sure.

The major focus will be on defense: Ellis, Tinordi, Beaulieu, Nash IMO.
Does anyone see a surprise at forward, someone you think may exceed expectations?

Both are definitely ahead of Schultz.

EagleBelfour 09-27-2012 06:17 AM

I could see Michel Ouellet surprise a lot of people, and even earn him a call-up with the Habs. No doubt in my mind that he will play a Top-6 role with the Bulldogs.
