Your veteran defencemen to EDM

Since the loss/decline of Staios and the trade of Pronger there hasn't been a ton of leadership and heart coming from the Oiler's blue line.

Without starting a flame war...

What are some honest trade suggestions for a veteran D that can help turn the tide for the Oilers?

:handclap:

Oduya or Montador, take your pick.

TheJuxtaposer 09-26-2012 04:00 PM

What would you give for Dan Boyle? He's certainly got heart. And talent too, of course.

I have wondered about that before. But considering the demand for defencemen I would imagine his price might be steep.

Paajarvi, Teubert and a pick?

Turrican* 09-26-2012 04:07 PM

Moreau was a defenseman?

This explains why he was such a terrible forward.

Liles for a 2nd

Komo and a 2nd for a 3rd

That's all we got.

Paajarvi is a start. Teubert's not really a need for us. Maybe Gernat? He looks to be a solid, albeit sheltered #4/5 offensive D.

I think this could be a real good deal...

Paajarvi is what the shark's need...

Now Teubert ??

What the pick would be ? Atleast a 3rd.

Are you throwing in the 2nd for Komi to offset the cap hit lol?

Its sad really, he used to be so respected. Not sure what happened to the guy.

oilinblood 09-26-2012 04:21 PM

we need a RHD and someone with alot of grit to team with smid in last stands.

Johnny Boychuk type.

TheJuxtaposer 09-26-2012 04:23 PM

Boyle would be a fantastic mentor for Justin Schultz, stylistically, no? Or am I way out to lunch?

Volchenkov shoots left, but he would be perfect. NJ won't let him leave w/o a fight though.

Perro 09-26-2012 04:27 PM

Mid Season if LA needs a shake up:

Greene for Teemu H.

I feel sick typing that...it's the bordom of no league.. I take it back.

Maybe not ideal, but Milan Jurcina? Tossin' it out there. He's a UFA I believe. Pavel Kubina?

Boychuk
Caron

for

Paajarvi
Marincin

I don't know...it's the offseason.

Turrican* 09-26-2012 04:42 PM

I don't know if I am down for trading future 3-4 d-man for a veteran now, when we really don't expect to win anytime soon?

Mystlyfe 09-26-2012 04:43 PM

Tom Poti can mentor your team from the press box. :naughty:

PADevil3034 09-26-2012 04:49 PM

Henrik Tallinder.

i can see what you are saying but gretzky and coffey didnt have to learn from anyone. Lidstrom didnt have some great power house d-man training him. you either have it or you dont. i wouldnt acquire a guy just to mentor.

I like Boyle, that being said, but he is not what we desperately need.

i know alot of posters dont assess their defenses like GMs do but I played defense and i know how difficult it is to have any success if you dont have a balanced d. we really need a pk rhd last stand guy.

Honestly I think they would take that deal for VALUE BUT...
im not knocking your post. i mentioned Boychuk because he is exactly what we need and he isnt ever going to be a superstar so it wont cost the farm. He is a solid top 4 RHD shut down guy who can log big minutes if needed.

The problem becomes our needs and Bostons. Boston , even if DH advances, needs Boychuk or a replacement -which we cant provide.

So in theory the value i believe is there but Boychuks hole would need to be filled through another acquisition first.
If you could get Boyle to Boston.... perhaps.
Boychuk is the long term solution that can fix a big hole for us now. Boston is a contender that would be giving up a big piece that internally they cant fill for a few years. If I thought Tambi had the brain pwer to not only multi-tas but g out and get the pieces and teams involved to make this happen itwould give me faith for the future but i seriously doubt he has the brain power to get a big trade together.

This is also about the only scenario i would be willing to give up Magnus in...one where we get EXACTLY the player we need... no second choices

Kris Chreider 09-26-2012 05:10 PM

RNH for Ryan Murray?

forgot about it being a trade for a veteran.

Lidstrom did have a mentor lol.
Coffey played for Detroit from 92-96.
And from 96-01 he had Larry Murphy.

Maybe not in his rookie season, but I am certain he learned a few things from those two.
