Where's Sam at? He used to be great at keeping tabs on the college and CHL prospects.

Boba Fettuccine 10-01-2012 11:17 PM

Sam was locked out by Gary Bettman

I had a chance to see Hyka play once already this season and he looks smooth and good. He initiates contact from time to time and has good hands. He is responsible in his own end but is still getting his feet under him. Plays a crash and bang style but I think that he will develop into a smooth skater style of player by the time he hits the AHL and so on.

Gibson is looking like he will become our next great goalie prospect. Whats funny is if you ask Hexy about him he always laughs and says things like he cant see why the fans don't think the kid is going to be a great goalie. I am really critical of this kid but his mechanics are excellent and he plays a big mans game in net. He is going to be a good one this season and who knows beyond that. I think he will be a very good goalie down the road.

Schumaker:

I only saw two periods of him playing but he still looks like a man among boys out there. IF IF IF he can develop his game along the way and take it to the NHL he can be an impact player. I am waiting to see how things go but he plays like Nolan but with better hands. I am going to see him play live several times this season and will try and keep up on him.

Nick Shore

I am lucky enough to be in CO today and will be at the Pepsi Center to see Nick play BC in an exhibition game. I will be making it to CO on five times this coming season. I am looking forward to watching him play and seeing his development.

I have a little more but will wait until there is a reason to do another mini update for something worth while to pass along.

As always, your insight on our kings prospects is greatly appreciated.

Alot of that comes from most fans first impression of him was giving up 5(?) goals in one period against the Coyotes prospects. I like the kids skill set a lot but he does have some work ahead of him on the mental aspect of things. Just so inconsistent in his play already this year...

Couldn't Schumacher go to the AHL whenever he wants to and does anyone think that might benefit him a good deal? He was drafted out of Europe and then went to play for the Hounds, so I think he's technically eligible. Then again he may be better suited playing Juniors instead, as I didn't follow him at all most of last season.

Michael Schumacher 1+1, 0 PIM, +3 against Saginawa. He was games first star.

Colin Miller didn't play.

Schumacher is pretty hot now. First two games 0+1, -3, last three games 4+1, +6. Obviosly he likes to play against Saginawa, because both times when SSM met them he was game's first star.

Gibson does have a real road of work ahead of him and his consistency is absolutely his biggest drawback but when he is on he is lights out at times. Its going to take time but he looks like the real deal to me. Anything can happen though.

My understanding on Schumacher is that he is playing right where the team wants him. I agree with you that he might benefit more from tougher competition but Futa once said to me (makes it sound like we talk all the time which isn't even close to the case) that one of DL's beliefs is that you put kids where they can experience the most success possible to develop their confidence.

This seems like the case with Shoe but it could also be a case of not having the space for him in Mch.

I am going to do a write up on Shore after Saturday's game. I have now learned how to post pics and might even get an interview (long shot) up as well.

I will get to talk with his coach and the AD for UoD for certain and should be able to get some words from them on how Shorey is doing from their perspective.

Its all butter and thanks guys.

Miller has an injury, I believe. He is also the captain of the Greyhounds. Just another natural leader DL seems to covet.

Interesting that Schumacher's goal the other day was short handed as well. Good to see he's not only producing, but playing important minutes.

To make it easier to track and follow Kings' prospects, here's a direct link to their profile pages on hockeydb, which updates their stats regularly. Just click on their names and it'll take you to their page. Ziggy, you forgot MacDermid.

Thanks for the heads up Reaper, I knew I was forgetting a prospect they had signed recently.

BTW, looking at Gibson's numbers, he's off to a bad start. Hoping his confidence and mental game didn't take a hit after what transpired at the WJC.

I wouldn't be too worried. The Sags just aren't a very good team this year. They are 2-3-1 this year so far and Gibson has been in net for both victories. His GAA and Save % seem to be more a case of being on a struggling team.

Things don't look too good for Tomas Hyka.
In a game tonight against Sherbrooke, he crashed into the boards head first and had to be escorted off the ice by two of his teammates.
He left the arena on a stretcher following the game and was brought to the hospital.

Wow that sounds serious. I hope he's okay. If there is a silver lining, they took him to the hospital AFTER the game, as opposed to immediately.

As per @daveainsley , Chicoutimi goaltender Christopher Gibson had knee surgery yesterday and will be out up to 1 month. #kings #qmjhl

Quote:

Tomas Hyka exited the refurbished Robert Guertin Arena in a neck brace en route to hospital in a stretcher after going hard into the boards in a 7-4 win over the Sherbrooke Phoenix.
Early diagnosis pointed to a back injury for the Los Angeles Kings prospect, though there was no word on the severity.

No further update that I can find, yet...

You forgot Derek Forbort too, Ziggy. Not that too many people forgot about the kid (still mad Lombardi took him over Emerson Etem) but I can't say anything bad about DL anymore

Yeesh, no bueno news for Kings prospects in the Q.

King'sPawn 10-07-2012 08:54 AM

Speaking of Forbort, he had a goal and an assist in an exhibition game last night. Michael Mersch had an assist, and Nick Shore had an assist as well.

Whoops, don't know how I overlooked him. Just a simple oversight, heh. Thanks for the heads up. Forbort's now on the list.

It remains to be seen, but it looks like Tomas Hyka may be ready for this Friday's home game against the Quebec Remparts.
