wow, ahl live is ridiculously expensive. $350 for the "early bird", league-wide package? :amazed: get bent.

Yeah, I was planning on getting it. Figured it would be $150 or less. NHL center ice is $350. I'm not paying that for a minor league product.

UncleBenny 10-03-2012 08:38 AM

How many non-Amerks games are you actually going to watch? The Amerks-only package is only $150.

It's $149-$169 depending on when you sign up.

WB-S will be a good test for the Amerks. As the article posted by Woodhouse states, that is one deep defensive corps featuring the likes of Despres, Dumoulin, Morrow, and a host of quality AHL vets. I think the Amerks have more firepower up front, but the Baby Pens will be tough to score on.

sabrefan27 10-03-2012 08:54 AM

Yeah, WBS will probably compete with Syracuse and Hershey as the class of that division. They are very good every year, and that lineup looks real solid. Definitely way ahead in goaltending. I'm not a huge Leggio fan and Knapp/Lieuwen look a bit over their heads so far.

Pretty sure I paid $350 last year, but maybe I'm mistaking it with the NFL package. Either way, that's a ridiculous price for minor league hockey.

it's hard to say. if there is no nhl season? potentially a lot. i paid about $160 last year for nhl gamecenter live (and still missed 3 or 4 games due to glitches where the site would not recognize my account :shakehead). don't think i'll be paying the same amount for only one ahl team's games, let alone twice that much for the league.

start winnin 10-03-2012 11:03 AM

Is it gonna be on TV for those that have TWC? I saw they played some games last year.

Chainshot 10-03-2012 11:13 AM

I'm curious how Rolston works in the guys who are fighting it out up front. It seems the top 9 are probably set, and even the fourth line, but is he going to work guys in playing with the other depth guys or is he going to give some of them a shot mixed in with the top 9? That's what I'm curious to see out of tonight's game.

sabrefan27 10-03-2012 11:50 AM

Lines tonight:

Quote:

Marcus Foligno-Kevin Porter-Mark Mancari

Zemgus Girgensons-Phile Varone-Evan Rankin

Luke Adam-Cody Hodgson-Corey Tropp

Nick Tarnasky-Rick Schofield-Maxime Legault
Defense:

Quote:

Joe Finley-Matt MacKenzie

Brayden McNabb-Mark Pysyk

T.J. Brennan-Alex Biega
Forward lines will, more than likely, be what they use on opening night. MacKenzie probably won't, though.

Well then. No forward auditions tonight... :biglaugh:

Taelin 10-03-2012 12:58 PM

Yes, free streams! AHL live is NOT worth the price.

I'll be home at around 4:45pm PST, so I should catch most of the game.

$350 was the NFL, which is $200 this season

I think the NHL is $169

I wouldn't get your hopes up.
AHL Live doesn't look to be carrying the game, so I don't think there will be a free stream.

IIRC through the end of last October, you could have got NHL CI for around $170. I also buy AHL Live (team pass) regularly and at $2 per Amerk game, I've had few complaints. It's cheaper than a beer at the bar or a trendy coffee, no? I do understand that people have their budgets however.

The only hockey I saw in their programming, for October at least, were RIT games (versus Penn State and Robert Morris).

Those are just common suggestions of where to look for streams so people quit asking. This game's being played on the MCC campus without any TV or radio broadcasts I believe.

Tonight's captains: Hodgson 'C' -- Porter 'A' -- Brennan 'A'

Woodhouse 10-03-2012 06:47 PM

Pens lead 1-0 after one; also lead in shots 13-6. Paul Thompson put his second rebound past Leggio for the lone goal. Later in the period, the Amerks had a successful 3v5 penalty kill.

gdsmack267 10-03-2012 06:59 PM

I know this is pre-season but the pens scratched their best 4 forwards and best 4 defenders. Rochester looked like they chose to play their Game 1 lineup. They should win this game.

Taelin 10-03-2012 07:30 PM

2-2 right now at the end of the second.

Woodhouse 10-03-2012 07:33 PM

Tied 2-2 after two; WBS lead in shots 22-13. Kevin Porter went off for repairs early after taking a stick to the face. Shortly after, the Pens took a 2-0 lead on a goal from Jayson Megna. Luke Adam would then net a PPG, burying an end-board rebound of a Mark Mancari one-timer; Phil Varone credited with the secondary assist. Varone would score the tying PPG, as Mark Pysyk set him up; Evan Rankin credited with the secondary assist.

Kevin O was saying Pysyk and Mancari have assisted both goals.

Well, @MikeOBrienWBS and @DropThePuckWHTK say otherwise.
RCH G: Adam (1) - Mancari, Varone; 11:53 (PP)
RCH G: Varone (1) - Pysyk, Rankin; 16:07 (PP)

Woodhouse 10-03-2012 08:22 PM

Pens win 4-3. Adam Payerl scored with 1:52 remaining, as his shot went through/off traffic and into the top corner. Amerks did have a 6v4 PP in the final minute, but Brian Gibbons scored into the EN from his own faceoff circle to extend the WBS lead to 4-2. Brayden McNabb then scored a consolation goal on the same PP with only two seconds to go.
