Well, he's only Second Tier in Sweden.

That's how he's scoring all those fancy goals over there. It's only because he's against lesser opponents. He would never be able to make those great 1 on 1 moves in the NHL against world-class goalies, and especially not in the Stanley Cup Playoffs! :D

Kopitar is very talented. With him it's just a matter of consistency. With Sutter as his coach that aspect of his game improved.

“When you look at Kopitar, he played in one post-season, and missed another post-season [in 2010-11 against Vancouver, due to a broken ankle],” Evans explained.

^Might wanna fix that, chap. San Jose.

He has always been elite. He'll be 100 point player now that Murray is back coaching in the minors.

1. He isn't in a dead-puck era system anymore.
2. He isn't forced to carry slugs like Calder, Frolov and Smyth.
3. Finally has solid 2nd line players in Carter and Richards backing him up.
4. A PP featuring Brown, Carter, Doughty and Richards. Compared to our PP's of the past and some of the awful players on it.

If there wasn't a lockout I had Kopitar pegged for 35-40 goals and 100+ points.

No he's not.

He won't be "elite" until he is much more consistent. Let's not lose sight that he disappears every season, mid-season.

Don't get me wrong. I am not bagging on Kopi. He is my favorite player, for a number of reasons.

If he can string together a couple of consistent seasons, then he is an elite player in my book.

Thanks for catching that. I noticed it this afternoon. Funny thing is, I KNEW it was San Jose, too...

He goes through a goal scoring slump, he doesn't disappear.

Yup. Even when he's not scoring, he's still backchecking.

It's not even just backchecking. In the oft-referenced 1 goal in 21 games streak from last year, he still had 12 points. While not stellar, he wasn't just gone offensively. Hell, that pace over 82 games would give you 47 points, which would have been 3rd on the team in points. The year before it was 2 goals in 25 games and he had 19 points.

Not to say that it's not something that needs to be addressed, but I feel it gets overblown.
