MacArthur for your defensive d-man

Leafs have an over abundance of puck moving d-men on our team. What stay at home defender does your team give up for a decent winger in Mac? (I said decent, not great. Please keep in mind.)

nogger 10-18-2012 11:06 PM

Babchuk

This is generally something I would work around. We need someone to partner with Gardiner on the second line. This is how I see our defensive line at this time.

Phaneuf - Gunnar

??? - Gardiner

Liles - Komi

Holzer/Franson as fillers. (only if Franson re-signs.)

Babchuk is someone I have had some interest in but I still have some hesitation towards his over-all consistancy. I know that when offering a guy like Mac I certainly can't expect anything too great, just someone who knows their role and can atleast play it.

Whydidijoin* 10-18-2012 11:16 PM

We don't have room.

ALI 10-18-2012 11:18 PM

Babchuk and Comeau for Macarthur

WarriorOfGandhi 10-18-2012 11:18 PM

Shane O'Brien is all yours

Why do the Leafs need to get another D-Man?

Four1 Lead 10-18-2012 11:20 PM

Korbinian Holzer will do fine.

MacArthur is expendable with other assets for an upgrade on the wing.

RealisticLeaf55 10-19-2012 12:07 AM

Too those that are saying 'why more defenseman?" we have no shut down player unless you believe Komi can turn it around or Holzer can step up and make an immediate change from AHL to NHL. We do need to obtain someone that blocks shots, makes smart hits and removes any crowding in front of our net. Our current defensemen do not do these things well enough.

That is exactly what Holzer does. If we got somebody else, he would just be replacing Holzer and we would be wasting assets to hold a prospect back who is clearly ready who would do the same things.

Also, regardless of if you like the player style setup, there is just flat-out no room this year, and even less in the future.

Keith Ballard sounds about just right.

I don't think any Canucks fans will be offering him.

Phaneuf-Gunnarson
Liles-Holzer
Komi-Gardiner
.????

Who's the 7th D? If theres an injury, especially to Phaneuf, that groups looking VERY thin. Blackers not ready and Ranger probably needs some time to readjust. Franson sounds like he doesnt want to come back, I think he said he was staying in Europe all year regardless of CBA.

I would trade Mac for a defensive D. Especially since we picked up JVR in offseason, and Kadri/Frattin are knocking at the door.

Tyskie 10-19-2012 05:41 AM

If I were the Leafs I'd give Komisarek another chance under Carlyle.

Jaques Martin is the reason for that contract and Ron Wilson is a good part of why he hasn't lived up to it yet.

He has only played 2 NHL games in his entire career. Not sure how you can say he is ready.

Macdonald from the Isles?

Michael Gary Scott 10-19-2012 07:41 AM

I think that if Burke thought we needed a defensive defenseman he wouldnt have traded Luke Schenn. Look at the best teams in the league and they can all move the puck from the back end. Vancouver has Edler and Bieksa, LA has Doughty and Voynov, Chicago has Keith and Seabrook. The need for a truly defensive defenseman is diminishing in the changing NHL. Burke is preparing for this as seen with the drafting of Percy and Rielly, along with the addition of Gardiner.

Straight up for Ron Hainsey

Go to the NYI board and make that suggestion. See how quickly it's laughed down.

MacDonald plays solid, 1st pairing minutes, while making $500,000 a season.

Next to Hamonic, he's the isles steadiest d-man.

Isles don't have a strong enough blueline, to trade a d-man away.

Stewie G 10-19-2012 09:44 AM

Perhaps a deal around Jeff Schultz?

Seconded. Schultz + 4th?

416Leafer 10-19-2012 10:12 AM

Bozak for Hjarlmarsson I think is a fair deal for both sides that gets Toronto a steady defensively responsible top 4 guy.

With MacArthur... a bit harder to think of a solid deal. Maybe somebody out of Phoenix, Winnipeg, NJ, or Anaheim? I could maybe see those teams wanting Mac.

Volchenkov.

The Flames have too many wingers for a trade to work.
