Tor - Car
To Car: Jake Gardiner + Carter Ashton + Lupul
To Tor: Jeff Skinner + 2013 2nd :yo: |
No chance Carolina does this, Stick to watching football there Marauder
Well now...
This is a terrible deal for the Hurricanes, and I'm a blues fan. The canes already have Faulk and Murphy. They don't need Gardiner.
Skinner doesnt adress enough of a need. Not going to take away from skinner because he is fantastic, but Gardiner is a much bigger need for the leafs.
I'd rather have Skinner than Gardiner.
No way Carolina does this. Totally guts their depth up front. Skinner is the future and Carolina's blueline isn't their problem.
Toronto probably can't afford to make this deal, either. |

Brutal for Carolina.

This proposal is awful. Gardiner is a real solid rookie/prospect but Carolina has the future PMD position covered between Murphy and Faulk. Ashton also doesn't even begin to make up what the Canes lose in Skinner.
Easy no from Carolina. |
lol carolina hangs up
No way Carolina does this
:shakehead Nope. Carolina's goal for the offseason was to add top-6 forwards. They aren't going to trade away their youngest one after accomplishing that just to get back to square one.

However Carolina doesn't need to add dman, they have a huge amount of talented PMD's. Gardiner doesn't make them think about moving Skinner. ANd the Leafs don't exactly need Skinner either. Scoring isn't a huge issue, and we'd be better off getting a center that has some more size and specifically plays a more playmaking game than Skinner does. It's not the best trade for team needs on either side. Value is off for Carolina too, as much as I'm a Leafs fan and Gardiner is awesome. It's not the worst I've seen but it's not even. |
I'm glad both sides are on the same page here. This one could have been ugly.
Sounds like a mutually beneficial deal! :sarcasm:
If Skinner wasn't dealt for Nash, then how on Earth could Gardiner get it done?

Gardiner + JVR is probably getting closer to reasonable. And even then I dont think they need a Gardiner type of Dman. |
I can't belive some Leafs fans are saying NO to this
Obviously the gap between Gardiner and Skinner are pretty far apart at this point. If Gardiner improves in his sophmore year and let's say puts up around 40 points then you can look at this deal a little different. Time will tell but at this point, there is absolutely no way this deal flies.
Ashton doesn't look like he has much of future at the NHL level, maybe if he gets lucky, he may pan out as a 3rd liner(which seems like his likely scenario).
Carolina says no to this, need and value-wise they get hosted but I agree with the poster who said Gardiner would be much more important need on our roster and having too many good goal-scorer(Kessel, Lupul, potentially JVR) would really make up for acquiring Skinner. Gardiner was one of our line bright spot on D-core last year and it looks like he will be relied on to carry a bigger load for the next few years. I say Carolina gets hosted but both teams decline the offer. |
