Who to watch?BARONS TO WATCH: Justin Schultz the reigning AHL player of the week continued his early season path of destruction through the AHL on Tuesday with his second multi point game of this young season. Schultz is now one point back in the AHL scoring race with 8 points through his first 5 pro games. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle finally broke through against the Monsters on Tuesday with 3 points apiece. The Barons power play finally lived up to its hype with 4 goals against Lake Erie on Tuesday.

AEROS TO WATCH: Houston might be one of the the few AHL teams that could beat the Barons at the skill game. Led by 20 year old super rookie Mikael Granlund who lit the Barons up in their last preseason game with 4-1-5, Granlund hasn't looked back since and has 7 points (2-5-7) in his first 5 pro games in North America. Houston has five recent first round picks on their club: Granlund, Jonas Brodin (Oscar Klefbom's former teammate), Zack Phillips, Charlie Coyle, and Tyler Cuma. They also have a number of recent 2nd round picks: Brett Bulmer, Johan Larsson, Jason Zucker, and Marco Scandella.

I may as well keep this quote here permanently! From earlier in the season.....
Quotable"He's worth the hype, Dan, I'll tell you that." -Barons head coach Todd Nelson on defenseman Justin Schultz

kind of a shame that either Paajarvi or Hartikinen will get a bumps once Hall gets there.

TowMater14 10-25-2012 05:12 PM

Wow, our power play percentage sure jumped up because of last game, hopefully that will continue. I was thinking the game was today and getting excited about going home and watching it. Oh well, guess I have to wait another day.
Barons 5 Aeros 3.

P.S. Thanks Bryan!

Hall to my understanding has been practicing exclusively at center, draw whatever conclusions you want from that. IMO the organization and Hall want to give it a try, if so that would be a huge boost for either Paajarvi or Harski at ES, but one of them will get the boot off the top PP unit.

Yeah it went from 5.6 or so percent to 20+% in one games time  Both teams have poor PK's so far (not sure why Paajarvi isn't getting more PK ice as IMO he was one of if not our best PKer early in the season). And you're welcome ;)

One solution to that is playing Hall at C instead of Martindale.

Intersting, didn't know that. Clearly the oilers want to give that experiment a try. It makes a lot of sense from a organizational perspective.

Wait wait wait wait.

Lake Erie isn't the only other team in the AHL?

GreatKeith 10-25-2012 05:43 PM

So we go from the Avs to the Wild... Hooray.

Paajarvi could move to the right side. I think he is more effective there anyway. Or Hall plays center.

stratedge 10-25-2012 06:12 PM

OP: Schultz has 8 points, not 9.

MikeModano9 10-25-2012 06:16 PM

Are we ever going to get to watch a game on sportsnet? It's always the *** Marlies.

It looks like they indeed did take away an assist from Schultz last game and gave it to Eberle. Schultz is at 8p, Eberle now with 5.

rynryn 10-25-2012 06:38 PM

I'm a huge Schultz fan--so jealous. Absurd that a lot of people immediately downplayed his potential when he didn't choose their team. Huge addition for the Oilers. Er, Barons. Well worth all the hype.

Matt Ryan 10-25-2012 06:41 PM

OH my god I am torn on who to cheer for! Houston...or OKC...

jk, OKC all the way

As soon as the Barons play a game in Canada, I bet that is when we are able to watch a game on SN.

Puritania 10-25-2012 06:48 PM

Just a question, why is the GDT the day before game day? I got all excited to watch a game tonight when I saw the thread. :(

Yeah and **** Sportsnet for ignoring everyone but the ******* Marlies. Don't know why they have Ontario, West, Pacific, One, etc. channels when they just show the same crap on all of them.

I would personally like to see Hall at center. Something like this for the top six:

Harti/RNH/Eberle
Paajarvi/Hall/Pitlick

But only 1 or 2 others, because I believe they now have Houston for 3 of 4 games. :p:

RipsADrive 10-25-2012 07:44 PM

Any word on when Hall will be ready to slot into the lineup?

I remember reading that he wanted to practice a few weeks first and it's been about one.

SDig14 10-25-2012 08:21 PM

If they're determined to try Hall at center, I'm glad they plan to try it now. I'm hoping the lockout doesn't last all season, but if it does let him play centre all year and we can put this experiment out of its misery.

I took a look at the barons schedule it looks like they play abbotsford twice and toronto once in November
I have to think sn will bring one or two of these

8 points for Shultz in 5 games a great start for him nice to see nuge and eberle get going last game too. i'd imagine hall is still a couple weeks out maybe i think starting him at center would be a great idea sucks for martindale though

He had 9 at the end of his last game, I guess the yanked an assist from him.

Because I'm not sure if I'll have the time to do it tomorrow and it gives us something to talk about besides the arena and lockout. And I'm putting JTS on notice so that he stays wired for the next 22+ hours
