Griffins vs Checkers 7pm EST

well, since the NHL refuses to get its rear in gear, I figured we'd get a GDT up for the televised GR game. This will also probably be the ugliest GDT we've had in a LONG time. :D

The Griffins come into tonight's game last in their division with a 1-2-0-1 record (3 points), while Charlotte leads their division going 3-1-0-1 (7 points) so far this season.

Landon Ferraro, Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Tatar, Chad Billins and Nathan Paetsch with 3 points in their four games.

The Checkers are led by Zach Boychuck with 6 points, followed closely by Zac Dulpe and Justin Faulke with 5 points and Drayson Bowman and Marc- Andre Gragnani with 4 points.

Not sure who is between the pipes for either team tonight, but Charlotte has what looks like a solid group with Justin Peters and Dan Ellis both sporting save percentages north of 90%. GR's goalies...well....we have hope that McCollum can turn things around at some point.

If these broadcasts become a regular thing, maybe we can get this set up by someone a bit more graphically inclined. :D

And if you have streaming links, post'em if you got'em. Or PM them to each other.

Hoping this isn't blacked out for us out-of-towners. Looking forward to seeing some pro hockey.

GeneralOddball 10-26-2012 12:43 PM

Would love to see some AHL hockey if there are any streams.

Kronwalled55 10-26-2012 12:59 PM

Griffins should always be televised whether there's a lockout or not. Isn't that what FSN+ is for? :sarcasm:

I think the best bet is a stream. I can find KHL links, but nothing for this.

I get to watch two live hockey games today on T.V, this is crazy! Grffins on FSD and Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on the NHL Network.

RedMenace 10-26-2012 01:37 PM

Hmmm, I wonder if there's any local station broadcasting this since the Checkers are about 1.5 hours away from me...

Edit -- Nope, per the Checkers' website: * Note: The Checkers game in Grand Rapids on Friday, Oct. 26, will be broadcast on Fox Sports Detroit

When does Armada play?

Z40 10-26-2012 02:51 PM

Why is Mrazek not playing in GR? He is clearly the most talented of our goalie prospects. May as well give him the experience at that level ASAP.

RedWingsNow* 10-26-2012 03:17 PM

Canceled cable due to lockout.
Oh well.

Marky9er 10-26-2012 03:35 PM

Stay out of the box or Sanguinetti will go to town.

Like many, I suspect he'll be in GR before too long. I don't really have a problem with starting him in Toledo though. There's plenty of time for Mrazek's development, whereas Pearce and McCollum are near the end of the line. Gotta give them a final chance before we completely turn the page on them. One might say that Pearce has no upside anyway, so might as well move him to Toledo and bring up Mrazek, and that's a somewhat fair point. However, Pearce is the only veteran-type guy of the three; rolling with just McCollum and Mrazek in GR right off the bat lacks stability. Pearce is nothing special, but he can stand-in as a fallback option. I think starting out giving him the benfit of the doubt as a safe fallback is the right move. However, he has started out poorly, and if that continues, he'll have proven that he is not actually a safe fallback. At that point, down to Toledo with him, and up with Mrazek. Might happen in the next couple weeks, who knows.

Pretty sure its 7 or 7:30, which sucks cause i guess I can't actually watch it live. I'll probably DVR it and watch it during intermissions of the Griffins game.

Charlotte looks like a pretty stacked team, and NHL goaltending. Better bring the A game.

FissionFire 10-26-2012 04:17 PM

Charlotte is the Flames minor league affiliate, so aside from a couple guys it's very similar to Grand Rapids in terms of not much quality depth. Players to watch for Charlotte.....

RW/LW Sven Baertschi - He's their top prospect and if you believe the hype a can't-miss stud. He'd probably be in the NHL right now if not for the lockout. He's their systems Nyqvist, but probably better.

RW Greg Nemisz - Another high-end talented winger in the Flames system. His ceiling is similar to that of a Frk or Jurco.

C Max Reinhart - Their top center prospect. Another high-ceiling guy similar to Jarnkrok (not in play style just in terms of upside).

D T.J. Brodie - Flames top defensive prospect. A step below Smith in terms of upside, more in the Sproul/Ouellet category.

Plenty of guys on the Flames side to watch. Should be an interesting game without some of the ridiculous stacked teams for either side. More like a true AHL game from any normal season.

Uhm, Charlotte is Carolina.

Abbotsford Heat is the AHL affiliate for Calgary. We're playing Carolina's AHL team tonight.
