Binnington again for me.

Robb_K 10-28-2012 04:45 PM

I finally can go with a goalie, as Binnington is playing really well. Of course, his career has a LONG, Long way to go, and a lot of different turns can still be taken before he'll have his chance to prove he'll have the mental game to make it in The NHL. But all the skaters, at this point in the rating, are very, very "iffy", as well. So, why not?

Binnington. Also gave consideration to Peluso and Nigro. Nigro had a very solid season as a bottom-6 player in Peoria last season. He started this season in the IR with a concussion but now that he's back playing, hopefully he can start to show what he can do out there.

Peluso leading Peoria in goal scoring. Didn't he score 20 goals his last year in juniors?
Looks to have a NHL future as an enforcer. Maybe he can chip in a bit offensively.

No love for Della Rovere?

I voted for him.

Rovere took a big step backwords last year with only 4 goals and 6 assists in 69 games in Peoria. The little I saw of him when the Blues brought him up his rookie year was that skating was not his strong point, he isn't physically imposing and he is not very skilled. Evidentally he plays with a lot of heart but I would be very surprised if he ever sees the ice again in aother NHL game.

At this level I step back, look at the whole list and say to myself, I only get to protect one of these guys out of the whole group. Any goalie I'll dismiss (that's just my rankings bias for previously stated reasons), and then it's just all the skaters. If I could only protect one guy off the whole list I would chose Walters. So that's why I voted for him.

He's been my vote for a couple of rounds now. But its mostly like picking a name out of a hat at this point since scouting reports on the remaining prospects are scarce, and seeing these guys live to know their current state of development is difficult as well.

Went with Binnington here. I really like Walters, but I'm really thinking Gardiner needs some attention. His first two years didn't really go well, but he is off to a good start with Penn State. He has good size and skill level. He has more potential than "what you see is what you get" guys like Peluso, Della Rovere, and Walters. (not a knock as I like Peluso and Walters alot, just 4th line 7-8 defenseman types) Gardiner is a project rated a 7 D by hockeys future standards.
