So because the NHL isn't currently playing, a golfer shouldn't get a sponsorship? How does that make any sense?

Of course there is the additional level of the Senators paying a golfer when they are currently refusing to pay their own hockey players which then circles back to the first implication of sponsoring a golfer...

Legally, one cannot wear trademarks "commercially" without an agreement (licensing).

Should Weir want to start wearing a NHL (or MLB or NFL or NBA) logo'd shirt/hat/etc, he too would need to have an agreement.

How is this that different than the deals that athletes have to wear Nike or other clothing company items?

The players with too high of insurance to play hockey should start a golf tournament. That should make things more interesting.
