MU vs. MSU 2/5
watchin this game on fox sports detroit

0-0 after 1 period. Montoya has looked pretty sharp...has moved well in the net, doesnt' look tired like other times i've seen him. moved the puck well at times too, getting a couple of good long breakout passes, showing restraint at other times and letting his teammates break the puck out when there's no lane for him

solid stopping shots...made one good one on a 2 on 1. anticipated the pass and slid across to stop the shot. then his own player crashed into him and took him out of the net, and a follow up shot by a MSU player from a bad angle hit the post. that's obviously not his fault though, heh

got a little bit lucky on one play when the puck popped in the air and a MSU player touched it with his glove, floated up over montoya and dropped right into the net ally-oop style, but since it was touched with a glove it was no goal. would have been pretty flukey if it was allowed anyways

Montoya has 7 saves so far. MSU has had several PP's including awhile with a 5 on 3

Haven't seen a lot of Potter, but he's made a few solid plays

some stats from around the NCAA tonight so far

Mike Walsh has the only goal for Notre Dame, they're trailing University of Nebraska-Omaha 2-1 in the second period, Chris Holt has 21 saves so far

Northern Michigan is losing to Alaska Fairbanks 2-0 in the second...obviously Olver has no points, not much of an update there.

Maine is playing tonight but I have no idea how that game is going cuz I can't get a score for it

Nystrom just scored from Porter and Dest to make 1-0

weird 2-1 on the other way after that...pass came across and montoya looked crossed up, but the puck went wide anyways...i think it hit a MU player on the way across and confused montoya and the MSU player wiffed on it. got back in time to stop another shot or two

Levitate 02-05-2005 07:52 PM

Potter just leveled someone behind the net...looked like it could have been an elbow but he just creamed the guy

FLYLine24 02-05-2005 08:04 PM

Montoya has saved 15 of 15 shots so far..2nd period just ended.

1-0 Michigan after 2 periods

Montoya with 15 saves so far.

another solid period for the most part. didn't have chances to move the puck really this period so none of that...came up with some good saves, but misplayed the puck once that created a moment of excitement. also seems to occasionally have some problems with rebound control on low shots, but hasn't really hurt him at this point.

in other news...Northern Michigan got on the board against Alaska Fairbanks, Olver got an assist on it. down 2-1 with the 3rd starting soon

Notre Dame has tied Nebraska-Omaha, Holt has 23 saves so far

3rd period now

Potter just made a nice play on Hensik, knocking him off the puck as he came flying up the ice and trying to cut in on the goalie

good defense

Levitate 02-05-2005 08:48 PM

damn, MSU scores with 3 minutes left

big crowd in front, montoya made a save off of a shot right in front but the puck dribbled off to the side to a MSU player who whacked it in

can't fault montoya for it, but it sucks for him

Levitate 02-05-2005 08:55 PM

goin to OT

Montoya making some good saves as the period winds down

MU with a PP to start the OT with about a minute left on it maybe...kolarik had a chance to win it for MU with seconds left, got a pass across the crease and had the entire short side open and he one timed it into the goalie, Vicari :shakehead

Levitate 02-05-2005 09:01 PM

Potter playing tough defense...very solid. not flashy but he does the job very well. and i've also noticed he's not shy at all about carrying the puck or making plays...he's comfortable with it. doesn't do anything flashy with it but plays very calm and makes the play

not much on montoyas end in OT yet...michigan has had some good chances to win this but Vicari has made some nice stops

Levitate 02-05-2005 09:07 PM

and it ends in another tie, 1-1

montoya was solid, some good saves throughout it all

michigan really should have won this game but couldn't score. montoya made the saves he had to. Potter looked nice and solid
