Game: Oddball Hockey Bets

thought I'd give this a try.

Simple game. Propose a strange hockey bet (with odds). The next poster decides whether they would take it or leave it, and then proposes their own oddball bet (with odds) for the next poster.

Take it = would bet for the statement coming true (at those odds).
Leave it = would bet against the statement coming true (at those odds).

I'll start off:

A hockey player will die from an on-ice incident over the next 10 seasons (5:1 odds)

Carolinas Identity 11-03-2012 03:24 PM

Hate to say it, but I think I'd take those odds. Makes me sad tho, but I think we're kinda heading in that direction.

Okay my turn. Um...

Okay, 10:1 that Seattle or Kansas City will see an NHL team before Québec City or somewhere in southern Ontario does.

I wouldn't take that, I think Quebec/Southern Ontario and Seattle get expansion teams together.

The Nashville Predators will win the Stanley Cup before the St. Louis Blues (3:1 odds)

I'd take that bet. Never going to happen.

The Winnipeg Jets will win the Stanley Cup before the Leafs do.

The NHL has 32 teams (no more, no less) by 2020 (4:1)

Leave it. Would take it at 8:1 or better though. Think that there will be relocation of several teams before expansion. If either Quebec city or Southern Ontario get a team via relocation there are really no markets that would be willing to put up the ~$300M fee for an expansion team.

A player ends a season with 150 points or more in the next 5 years (12:1)

Leave it, repeating any award is very difficult

7:1 - Vancouver is the only Canadian team to make the next playoffs.

My first initial thought of what to post as a reply when I first saw the title of the thread doesn't (quite) fit in with the spirit of the thread.

So, in the hope it'll make somebody chuckle, I'll post it anyway:

Sometimes I can't decide if I want a ice cream or a shake. Both are good while hitting the spot in slightly different ways.

If Rick DP is playing I'll make a little bet with myself:
If he gets hurt in the first 30 minutes of the game, I'll make a shake, if he manages not to get hurt in the first 30 minutes, I'll have (regular) ice cream....

Leave it. Although it may seem possible, I just can't see that happening.

Carey Price wins a Vezina within the next 5 years and leads Montreal deep into the playoffs.

Leave it. Fighting is just part of the sport.

Games lost due to concussions will be lower than they were last year (over an 82 game sched.)
