Is he in that game though? Doesn't look like it according to the website.

Ah, my bad. Scheifele's game is on November 12. Thanks.

garret9 11-05-2012 07:49 PM

word on the street (aka the hfboards prospects threads) is they tried to give more games (ie: 2 instead of 1) to the bubble kids... looks more random though to me (ex: Strome isn't a bubble).

Final score: Rus 6, QMJHL 2. Huberdeau and MacKinnon -4 on the night.
QMJHL has a history of losing to the Russians. Some speculate it's because the Russians are fresh against the Q and get tired as they move west... meh.

I love listening to Sam Cosentino, he is one of the best color guys. This guy deserves a gig with TSN or CBC to be a regular color guy as he knows what he's talking about and sounds good on the tube. Aside from that, Hubs, Mack, and Drouin sure look good together tonight.

Russia leads series 2-1

Holden Caulfield 11-08-2012 11:03 PM

I really don't care too much about this series, but can't say I'm surprised that since the Russian's finally sent a real team, not a Russia "D" team like normal the are winning games for the first time in a long time in this series. It's still not all the top end guys, but plenty more than normal, making this series worth something for the first time in many many years.

I actually found myself disagreeing with him, whenever he says "player x" or "this line" is having a great game.

Now maybe i should give him the benefit of the doubt, as it may look quite different live and in the booth, than what we see on TV coverage - but when a player hasn't done a thing for 2 periods and then gets one shot on goal, that's not a "great game", in my opinion.

Seems to jump on the bandwagon really quickly when a player doesn't deserve it, imo.

Though i'll take that over Bob Cole in the 80's when he would tell us when Wayne Gretzky was getting ready to come back onto the ice, and then when he was leaving the ice, virtually every shift. It's okay Bob, we'll see him on the ice when he gets there.

Bob E 11-09-2012 12:04 AM

Malcom Subban looks fantastic in the net.

He's #1, with a considerable drop to #2, imo.

Montreal/Boston games in a few years, assuming both Subbans stay with their respective clubs and continue to perform well, will be very interesting.

surixon 11-10-2012 10:13 AM

Big fan of Subban, it looks like we may get quality goaltending this year for a change.

As for the series, I have liked the way the Russians are playing these days, very fast skilled and aggressive.

Team OHL looked good for the first two periods and then took their foot off the gas in the third period.

Players:

Strome and Murphy: Very dissapointed in both of them, Strome floated the entire game and Murphy is a disaster in the d-zone.

Chevy needs to do everything in his power to move up in this draft and grab Monohan (sp) the kid is an absolute stud both ways. I also think Chevy should try to get a late first round pick and grab Fucle who I think will be a terrific goaltender.

Looking forward to the game.

Hope to see some production , created chances , stronger skating and a physical presence... yeah not a big list !

Scheifele has stepped up and now we are getting into World Jr. mode and I want to see that continue at this elevated stage , much like he showed in the summer 40th anniversary series.

Game on.

I'm personally surprised how many strides (hah!) Scheifele has made in his skating since the Jets prospect camp - very impressive. Better top gear, acceleration, and strength on his skates. Always a bit hit and miss to judge based on small samples like tonight's game, but I'm expecting a strong performance from him.

If nothing else, watch his vision on ice - ready to shoot or pass at a moments notice, and usually makes a good decision.

Scoring , points are always an iffy thing , you can play very well at times and get none , but for the most part production matters and producing against top level competition matters more. I want to see that or hope for that much like the pressure game 4 of the 40th anniversary series where he stepped up and got three points. Progression in his overall game , skating , physical play , to go with his elite vision and anticipation. Big time players play big in big games , so obviously am hoping for continuation of that tonight.

Paradise 11-12-2012 12:44 PM

Tonights OHL lineup is a lot more physical than the one that played last game. Should be a tough game for the Russians.

Here's where each player is in OHL scoring

Puempel(31) - Strome(1) - Meurs(49)
Domi(16) - Catenacci(5) - Leivo(28)
Camara(13) - Scheifele(4) - Griffith(8)
Rychel(48) - Graovac(14) - Wilson(127)

I see what they are doing with that third line... That's a physical line that is dangerous offensively. Although I'm still undecided about Griffith being on there over Leivo. Griffith gives that line more offensive edge but if they are going to be a physical shutdown line with scoring, I think Leivo would be better on with Scheifele and Camara and use Griffith to improve the scoring on Catenacci's line... but I guess they didn't want 3 undersized guys together on the second line.

And some cohesiveness/chemistry with Scheifele and Camara. Looking to see an impact from Scheifele tonight.
